thank you, @bittersweetbisexual for the ask!
today, i’m gonna be gushing about Frelik, aka the Spirit Lord. bc it gets kinda long and it’s just me rambling, i’ll be dropping this under the cut.
see, Frelik’s a pretty chill dude. he’s one of those people who are infinitely better people as a kid than an adult, if there are any people like that. (normally it’s the people who get nicer as they get older, i think, but The PressureTM gets to him. he’s still a well-meaning guy, but like 70% of my characters, he just makes terrible decisions.)
so picture this: Frelik is a cool, friendly, kinda-shy blob of mist. your usual guy who grew up on a dangerous world 90% unsupervised with friends. sounds fun. so, as this happens, he meets a few more mist-blobs and they parade around the dangerous world trying to Find Stuff. he’s not the one trying to find stuff, but he’s a cool, supportive friend.
and then, one of his friends die. oh no! say the rest of his friends, frelik, it’s your job to do stuff now. save ‘em… actually, no, save all of us. ‘cause we need saving.
so, this poor fella goes: yeah! you do! i’m smart, i can do this! despite having, like, 0% confidence in himself or background info/experience. he does a pretty good job, though! good for you, Frelik.
so his friends go: wow! frelik, you’re such a cool dude. can you keep doing this for, like, ever?
and he goes: yeah! you bet! ‘cause he’s a nice guy who likes his friends. so he does. here comes the Palace City and the whole… society of mist-blobs, i guess. he’s doing a pretty good job ruling the place; gets a nice new moniker etc etc.
then one (and a half) of his friends goes: yeah, sorry, i’m not really feeling this and ditches him for another world. yay! it’s ok, he’s still got Carena (and Endelor, Amanan, and Iker, i guess, but mostly just Carena). he’s feeling a little sad and a lot stressed at this point–it’s tough work, and most of his friends have just kinda left him to his devices with Big Expectations. so he creates Lao (not mist, surprise!) to help him with work. now, knowing from personal experience that no supervision is not always the perfect solution, he’s kinda harsh on Lao. sorry, buddy. Lao grows quickly, and they end up having a Mostly Okay relationship… nevermind, i lied. they’re on OK terms, but like, it’s not super healthy. it gets better though, so don’t worry on that front.
anyway, Carena comes along and says, hey frelik, you look like you’re in trouble. need some help? i can raise the entirety of us mist-people and all of riya/amara’s noble ‘humans’, if you want.
Frelik, not knowing better, says okay! just make sure they love me even though i’m not doing anything!
bitterly, Carena says, yeah! sure! no problem!
of course, there is a problem. there are a Lot of problems, but Frelik doesn’t know that there are any. there are so many problems Carena kicks her daughter out of the Palace City and Tyren comes knocking on his front door and then Rylee comes knocking on his front door (after tyren leaves, ofc, nothing is ever easy for rylee im sorry) and at this point, Frelik is both:
a) really confused bc he’s not up to date with the going-ons of the Palace City (smh) and
b) really tired.
so anyway, that’s Frelik, the Spirit Lord.
