For the mash up. Poorly timed confession and hair brushing/braiding 😊😊

from this trope list, went with ten x rose for this one ~
Knock knock knock
Rose buried her head further into the pillows.
Knock knock
“Rose? Are you awake?”
Sometimes she wondered if he liked waking her up so early.
“No, m’not,” she mumbled. As soon as the words left her mouth the door creaked open and the light in her room slowly brightened. She opened an eye as she felt him sink onto the edge of her bed, and promptly burst into light chuckles.
“What? What’s so funny?”
She pointed to the mirror, and waited until he noted the absolute wild nest of hair on top of his head. He patted it down as much as he could, only for it to spring back up again.
That seemed to distract him for a good while, and Rose managed to doze off again before he started arguing with the TARDIS about the location of his hair product.
“Thought you’d just run around like a mad scientist.”
“Well, last regeneration wasn’t so lucky with these locks. I didn’t really think about it ‘till now. You should have seen my past incarnations, absolutely bonkers!”
Rose found the will to wake up as the Doctor babbled on about his past hair routines, stretching sore muscles from yesterday’s run-around with the Sycorax. She wondered if he had a restless night of tossing and turning, making his hair stick up in all directions. Her mum’s voice in her head commented on how long it was and Rose, I could definitely clean it up a bit just let me get my good scissors from the kitchen.
“You can borrow my stuff in the bathroom,” she said as she walked over to dig around in her drawers. “I think I have extra gel in there.”
She got ready for the day and emerged from the en-suite with a squeeze bottle and a comb, pulling his hands away from his hair and motioning for him to sit in the chair next to the mirror.
He squeaked every time she brushed out a knot. “Don’t be such a baby.”
“I think I’ve got a sensitive head this time around,” he retorted, and his smile turned cheeky. “I’m still new, you know. You’ve got to be gentle with me.”
She scoffed. “You’re lucky I love you.”
He stiffened in his chair. Her hands froze.
“What?”
“Hmm?”
“You said-”
“I just meant-”
They both fell silent, and Rose worked diligently with his hair. How could she even slip up like that? He’s probably gonna think it’s because of his new face, with how casually she brought that up. He stared at her through the mirror, and she avoided looking at him until she was done with her task.
“I think I’m very lucky, then,” she heard him say. He was beaming at her, she knew it. Even if he just changed, it was like she knew him like the back of her hand. The butterflies in her stomach wouldn’t calm down. The Doctor hummed. “Very lucky indeed.”
Rose breathed out a laugh. “Just let me put the gel in your hair, git.”
“Alright, love.”

I totally agree with @bittie752. I thought there were some good moments in the novelization, but in general didn’t care for some of the additions and disliked the flat out changes.
Same. I really did like Rose remembering her New Year’s conversation with Ten. That gave me a brilliant plot bunny I can’t wait to write.
But overall... no.
One thing I didn’t mention is that I also felt like it tried too hard to be self-referential. Like, the bit with Clive having pictures of all the Doctors was mostly there to hint at the future of the show, including Thirteen.
And Donna sleeping through everything wasn’t really necessary to this particular story. And... I know there were others that made me roll my eyes, but those two are the ones I’m remembering right now.

I wasn’t a big fan of what they added to Mickey’s back story and the deletion of the line about her reading his email. I liked his original growth arc where he went from someone who needed taken care or to someone who could take care of himself.
I was seriously disappointed by the deletion of Mickey’s email line, and the whole retconning of their relationship. Making him the devoted, faithful bf, instead of letting their relationship not be good on either side... that really changes things in ways I do not like.
I’m looking for a fic I read a few years ago, I think on teaspoon. Rose left the doctor after GITF and the fic picks up years later. I think Rose was living in Colorado and the doctor was fobwatched and thought he was an author I think. Any ideas?

bittie752 replied to your post “i don't like rose being tentoo's assistant... i think they should be...”
I think Jackie always tends to downplay what Rose does, unless she’s telling someone off. Not because she’s not proud of Rose. But because it’s a defense mechanism. Rose is her only daughter, the only link left to her first Pete and to her home universe. If Rose is just the ‘assistant’ that must mean she’s safer.
I think that’s a really important point both of you have made. This is 100% Jackie POV.
From a writer’s standpoint, I would do the same. Especially when it fits the character. My personal view: Jackie followed Rose across the Void. Jackie left her younger child and followed Rose. Why?
Yes, RTD wanted her there. But there was a truth to her character in why she did it. Protective mother. She’s always had issues trusting Rose as someone capable of protecting herself. Jackie is the definition of mama wolf. She’s got to protect her kid. No matter if her kid is dimension hopping and kicking ass. Jackie has always worried about Rose. And lets face it, years of Rose focused on finding the Doctor, takes a toll on a worried mum. Then there’s the metacrisis and her not quite buying it. Protective Mum.
Yes, I think Rose downplays things so Jackie doesn’t worry. It’s just easier on everyone and Jackie accepts rather than worry about both her hubs and her daughter out hunting Cybermen or whatever. So is Rose an assistant? Maybe. But she’s one that still goes out on missions leaving the Doctor behind which is a very important point. What assistant does that? One who is more than someone who cleans beakers. To me, Rose has always been the one in charge no matter what you call her. That’s one of the reasons Ten was such a mess after DD.
That being said, there are a lot of people who see Rose as more a commander type. I’ve had more than one reader get upset with me when I wrote Rose leaving Torchwood to go off with TenII. It’s an important headcanon to a lot of people and I respect that. And that’s the point where I think people need say, screw this. That’s not my head canon and do what they want. Ten years of head canon - well earned, thought out and it’s yours no matter what audios come out. Embrace and love thy head canon!
I’ve read some comments about the Rose novelization and decided, hmmm I don’t see it that way. So I’m not reading it LOL. I do want to read TCI because that one fell more in line with my personal interpretation. So I get it.
So the moral of the story is, follow your head canon to your happy place. I’ll tag everything I write on this as TenII x Rose Audio. I’m still excited to listen. I really loved the Ten x Rose Audios so I think this should be fun. And I love listening to Camille Coduri read. I couldn’t stop smiling listening to her wine and gossip!
