I'm probably going to get shit for this but if you refuse to use real leather kink gear and only use "vegan" leather I think your ethics are misplaced and ill-informed. You are choosing plastic. Apple leather, mushroom leather, plastic leather, they're all less than 5% biological material, and more than 95% plastic. They will wear out and begin producing microplastics within a year of even semi-regular use. If you don't want to directly contribute to the leather industry, buy secondhand. Leather from more than seventy years ago is still perfectly usable, either as-is or reworked into new gear, and the long term environmental impact of using real leather is SO much lower than using 20x more plastic because you have to keep replacing it all as it falls apart, sending it to landfills where it does not and will not biodegrade. If you can't abide by even secondhand leather use, just don't use either option and find a different natural material to work with. I saw someone making pup play hoods out of cotton fabric on instagram the other day. There are options

sometimes you end up talking to someone and they use a lot of two dollar words, and if you're even moderately well-read you realize very quickly that they can't afford that kind of behavior
