Hi Spurgie! Maybe you and your community can help me (and laugh a bit;): my boyfriend installed bumble bff in the hopes of meeting new people (moved to a new country a year ago ad doesnt have any friends here). He met with a guy, really nice had a good conversation. The guy mentioned redirecting his life also in religion (christian), wants more and found a couple, older people, 50yo, already retired, who are an inspiration to him. (Part 1)
The fact that they're being so secretive about the meeting and what it's about definitely screams MLM to me. My first thought is it might be Amway, which is one of the original MLMs and I've heard stories about it that area really similar to your boyfriend's. Amway people will even use dating apps to try and get new recruits, so it wouldn't surprise me that they're using Hinge for friends, and they almost always have some weird Christian spiel in the stories I've heard. I don't know if Amway has always leaned Christian, but they're a pretty old company who's had to restructure over the years to stay alive, and I think lately they've been using Christianity as an almost cult-like recruiting tactic. I believe they also operate internationally, so that would also make sense.
If it is Amway or something similar, I would caution your boyfriend because they've been known to be very persistent, and once you get involved it can be hard to get out. So to answer your question, it might be both an MLM *and* a cult lol, but I'll throw it out to the followers too, does anyone have any experience with anything this?
