Jolyne Cujoh - American Alligator

Jolyne time! I pretty much immediately wanted to make her an alligator. Aside from the obvious ‘Florida Woman’ excuse, I feel an alligator is fitting for Jolyne on several levels.

I think it’s important on some level for Jolyne to take after Jotaro, even if not to an insane visual degree, so both of them being large predatory animals commonly misunderstood as ‘dangerous’ and ‘overly aggressive for no reason’ makes sense. Alligators are aggressively protective over their own, and Jolyne is very much the same for her own companions and her father. And you cannot fucking tell me she ISN’T using Stone Free to grip some poor fool so tightly and death rolling them into oblivion. Jolyne is a fucking FIGHTER and she’s throwing it down any day of the week.

Most importantly, I really wanted her and Jonathan to be the only reptiles out of all the protagonists up to part 6. I briefly debated making Joseph a bearded dragon, but it didn’t fit him enough to justify breaking that rule for me. Story-wise it just is fitting, with Jolyne being the Joestar that embodies Jonathan’s legacy most out of any protagonist. Genuinely she’s one of my favorite protagonists in JoJo, probably one of my favorite characters PERIOD.

Additionally:

I like the idea of her and Jotaro just. Floating in the water. Both seals and gators do this. Father-Daughter marination time.

Giorno Giovanna - Serval (/Emerald Tree Monitor)

Giorno time! I’ve made him a proper chimera- trust me on the fact that the traits are evenly distributed along his body- his clothes pretty much hide that. (Head, back, legs being Serval, and arms, chest, and tail being monitor lizard)

Giorno’s animal choice for me was something that was pretty easy- he was already going to be some sort of feline because of Dio, but I didn’t want him to be a big cat since he’s definitely not as imposing as his dad. I had that reflect onto his other half as well. Instead of being a massive monitor lizard, I picked a smaller one. Serval came pretty easy as a feline pick though, mainly because of their lankiness.

Giorno’s storyline in Part 5 doesn’t really keep either Dio OR Jonathan very relevant- so it was important to me that Giorno did not look like a more cohesive version of my Part 3 Design for Dio, and instead looked like his own character.

Unfortunately Giorno’s character didn’t have too much influence in this species decision, though I definitely don’t think this choice is UN-fitting for him. I think what matters most at the end of the day is if I can picture this design in the role of the character and have it feel like the character, and not a cosplay. And I can definitely picture this as Giorno, suggesting 100 cars be stolen instead of just one.

Josuke Higashikata - Snow Leopard

Josuke wasn’t a tricky one to figure out. I’ve seen a lot of people make him a raccoon and I think that’s genuinely really fitting, so I stuck with a gray animal with dark patterns. Snow Leopard was really easy to narrow down from there- they’re very playful and silly which I think matches Josuke’s personality perfectly. Additionally, it gives him and Jotaro a little bit of resemblance since both are spotted animals.

Since I decided to make Joseph a tiger, I think an interesting design detail could be that Josuke has some irregular patterning that lines up with some of Joseph’s- probably visible moreso on his arms and torso (which are covered up by his uniform and shirt anyway) but it’s an interesting concept to think about!

Jonathan Joestar - Crocodile Monitor Lizard

Jonathan was a bit of a harder one to do- I wanted him to be an animal that could look both friendly and intimidating, and I wanted him to be a reptile for Reasons™.

I wanted a big lizard, but didn’t just want to slap him with ‘Komodo Dragon’, so I looked to other monitor lizards. I eventually settled on the Crocodile Monitor lizard, since they’re quite large. I wanted to try to include the spots the irl lizard has, but it ended up making the design a bit cluttered.

Now there are two specific reasons I wanted Jonathan to be a reptile, one of those being I wanted to link him up with Jolyne, who I’ve made an american alligator, the second being that I elected to make Dio a lion, so when he steals Jonathan’s body, he becomes a chimera.

It’s pretty nice that despite having those stipulations I was able to make something that I still think fits Jonathan as a character, as opposed to just making his species a device for other characters to look cool off of.

Jotaro Kujo - Leopard Seal

This was the first design I actually fully completed- surprise no surprise, it’s Jotaro!

I knew I had to make him some sort of marine animal, but I didn’t know that ‘Dolphin’ would fit him all too well, despite him canonically being a dolphin fan. I thought for a minute to make him a marine iguana, but that didn’t feel right either. I eventually settled on some species of seal, and then I recalled my plans for Jonathan. After that, I had Leopard Seal locked in.

Leopard Seals are considered by many to be the most terrifying species of seal- they don’t exactly look as cuddly as their other cousins. I figured that would work excellently for Jotaro since he’s large and terrifying. Additionally, I’ve seen them described as “What you get when you need a monitor lizard but only have a mammal”, and well, my design for Jonathan is a monitor lizard! I agree with one of my friend’s headcanons that Jotaro resembles Jonathan the most out of anyone in the bloodline, so it felt fitting to me to make him an animal that while being a completely different kind of animal entirely, still evoked that same feel.
