I’m not very good at debate, and I don’t really like to argue with people. I’ve stated that many times and it’s true.
However, there are certain aspects of this hobby that I feel very strongly about, and I don’t always want to keep quiet about them. Recasts is one such topic. The lack of body diversity in dolls is another.
I honestly and truly believe that fatphobia is a huge reason as to why there aren’t more chubby/fat mature dolls. I do believe that if a popular company were to create such a doll, it would sell very well, but that is largely in part because it has the draw of being from a popular company, such as Doll Chateau, which is known for pushing the boundaries with their doll bodies.
But just because a popular company can get away with potentially selling a larger-bodied doll, does that negate the argument that fatphobia in this community exists? No.
There is no demand for chubby dolls, that’s why companies don’t make them. They would make no profit. It’s all about business, people say, not fatphobia.
Why don’t we examine why there’s no demand? This is a rapidly growing community, with (I would wager) a large portion of owners having more than 1 doll. Why are we still at a point that only slender bodies are deemed as desirable? WHY don’t people want fuller figured mature dolls?
I know I’m not good at articulation, and I’m not out to argue or fight with people. But I’m tired of the excuses. I’m tired of people pretending fatphobia doesn’t exist in the hobby.
