Resin comparison: BF, FL, AL, Volks, Miyadoll
*All parts pictured above are in the “normal” resin colour offered by the various makers, except the Miyadoll, which I just threw in since I had it (I think it made the darkest, 2005 Volks part look worse than it actually is, though XD;;).
Visually, Bluefairy and Fairyland resin colour is a close match, I would say 90%. Unless you are very picky, I think it would make a satisfactory hybrid. The difference is that the BF resin is more pigmented/ saturated, whilst the Fairyland colour is slightly paler and has a bit of desaturated grey-ness in it.
Volks 2018 and Alchemic Labo fresh are also surprisingly close in colour, although the texture is different. It could make a reasonable hybrid with some blushing.
Combined with the texture of the resin, Alchemic Labo fresh looks a little dull. I think my favourite of the four “normal” resin colours is the 2018 Volks, followed by FL. Beside my less brightly-coloured crew, BF’s colour is just too saturated for my taste...
Texturally, Alchemic Labo and Fairyland are the most “plasticky”-feeling. AL is distinctly on the shiny side, while FL is more matte. Alchemic Labo feels heavier and more solid, though - Fairyland feels very light in comparison to all the other resins I have.
Bluefairy is also quite light in weight, but the texture is less “plasticky”. I am sorry that I cannot describe it in any clearer way... It is in-between AL and FL in terms of shine.
Volks as always has a lovely texture to it. Very solid-feeling, matte, and yet with the very barest hint of translucency. So far, it’s my favourite resin formulation of all that I’ve encountered (though I will say, the last time I “encountered” a doll besides my own was about 10 years ago XD;; The technology may have moved on since then...) The cream white Miyadoll resin (not sure if the other colours would have a different formulation) feels and looks similar to Volks pureskin, if slightly more textured. It is rather lighter in weight.
