A FOND FAREWELL AND A CALL TO ACTION
To give us some level of anonymity, we never post by-lines on this blog. We feel the sensitive nature of some of our posts justifies it, although it wouldn't take much digging to find out the identities of myself and my dear co-writer. It's with some sadness that I'm announcing Becky's retirement from BJTR. She is moving up in her career to a new job in San Francisco, where she hopes to continue tech and startup reporting just a short drive away from Silicon Valley. I wish her all the best.
Becky from the perspective I usually view her from. She is small.
BJTR was Becky's brainchild, although it was originally meant to be called “China Tech Chick.” By chance, we discovered we both had an interest in tech journalism, so I jumped on board and she appropriately spayed the title. For the past five months, BJTR has grown into something we're both very proud of and thoroughly enjoy writing.
I consider myself extremely lucky to have found Becky. She pulled me out of my daily five-to-nine grind to help create something I never would or could have done alone. Her absence on BJTR will no doubt be felt by both myself and our regular readers.
Want to write for BJTR?
Writing BJTR is a moonlight job Becky and I have done completely pro bono in our free time. To fill the hole Becky leaves behind her, I humbly request your help. I will do my utmost to honor Becky's accomplishments and keep the blog going, but I need contributions to keep posting good, original content regularly.
The only requirement for you to write something for BJTR is that it should apply to our audience: demographically expats, geographically Beijing, and psychographically tech savvy. Our posts have covered everything from news to consumer advice to local startup profiles. You can submit regularly or just write something one-off. I encourage you to contact me with any ideas, suggestions, or questions you have. I will offer as much assistance I can with research, prose, angles, et cetera. We prefer to have at least one image per post, whether it be a photo, graphic or screen capture.
What's in it for you? Besides my gratitude, your work will be publicly published to a targeted audience on a credible blog, and people will read it. It's a great way for aspiring writers to get published clips and for tech enthusiasts to share their expertise. I don't wish to publish our viewer statistics here, but I can supply this information privately, if you feel it pertinent. What you submit to us does not have to be exclusive to BJTR (you can post it on your own blog or submit it to another publication), but it must be your own original work. And yes, you can have a by-line.
About the Twitter...
Finally, you might have noticed BJTR has always used Becky's personal Twitter account. That will continue for a few weeks, but we will eventually switch over to mine. I encourage you to continue following Becky on Twitter, but the focus of her tweets will change to suit her new role in San Francisco. My personal Twitter will be the new outlet exclusively for BJTR.
This blog is improving and gaining a larger audience every day, and neither Becky nor I wish for it to end. We thank all our readers and friends for letting two bloggers, both wet behind the ears when it comes to Beijing and tech journalism, into your computers and community.
