Summary: It's not that Katsuki didn't want kids. He figured he'd have them one day, probably. That he and Izuku would adopt or maybe figure something else out. This is NOT how it was supposed to go. ~~~~~ CHAPTER 21 All Might shows up at 4:00 PM on the dot, half hidden behind a stack of gift bags and two massive All Might-themed teddy bears.
“I am here!” he whisper-yells, craning his neck around the tower of presents and beaming at the pair of them. “And I am being quiet so as not to wake any potentially sleeping babies!”
Izuku grins back at him, quickly ushering him inside, while Kacchan shuffles his feet somewhat awkwardly in the background – Izuku can tell he wants to help unload all the gifts off All Might, but he’s still restricted from lifting too much for probably another month or so.
“You don’t gotta be quiet,” Katsuki says, shoving his hands into his pockets to keep from reaching for anything. “She’s sleeping upstairs. And she’ll probably be up soon anyway.”
“What is all this?” Izuku asks, as he gleefully takes one of the bears. “All Might, you didn’t have to bring us anything!”
“Nonsense! It would never do to show up empty-handed. But don’t worry–” He sets the other bear down gently on the step above the genkan. “This one is for Young Miss Kaminari. I understand they’re in one of the houses just across the street?”
“That’s right,” Izuku says. He takes some of the gift bags next and gestures for All Might to follow him further into the house. “We bought at the same time.”
“How fortunate that you’ll be able to raise your children near each other.”
“I don’t know if fortunate is the right word,” Katsuki mutters under his breath, which just makes Izuku roll his eyes.
“Kacchan likes to act like he wasn’t encouraging them the entire time.”
“I wasn’t sure if they would be home,” All Might says quickly, before Kacchan has a chance to fire snark back at Izuku. “I didn’t want to intrude.”
“Tch…” Katsuki pulls out his phone. “I’ll text ‘em and see.”
All Might nods and grins again. “Thank you! And thank you again for the invitation.”
“Sorry we’re not fully set up here yet.” Izuku scratches sheepishly at the back of his head. “It’s been kind of hectic. I promise we’ll have more furniture eventually.”
“I think it looks wonderful. No need to apologize on my account. In fact, I was nearly the one who would’ve had to apologize!” All Might reaches into one of the bags, fishing around for a moment before he pulls out some kind of rolled up tapestry. “I almost showed up with gifts only for Young Miss Bakugou and nothing for the birthday boy!”
He holds it out and Izuku accept it almost reverently, hands careful like it’s his child he’s handling and not–
“It’s a limited-edition Young Age wall scroll!”
Not “A limited-edition Young Age wall scroll?!” Izuku repeats, voice immediately kicking up several notches and decibels too high. “Weren’t these only available in the United States??”
“Correct!”
“Oh, damn,” Kacchan says, crowding in to look as Izuku quickly unfurls it. “What, you just had an extra lying around?”
“Correct again! Here.” All Might starts pointing at the various presents around them. “The red and blue bags are from me. That yellow one is from Aizawa, and the lovely purple bag covered in glitter is courtesy of a very excited Young Shimano who overheard me telling Principal Nezu that I would be leaving campus directly after my last class today.”
“Mahoro?” Izuku asks brightly, gaze widening in pleasant surprise. “Really? That’s so sweet.”
“She’s not the only student who had well-wishes to pass along,” All Might says. “Evidently word spread quickly and there were quite a few in the hero classes who wanted to send their regards. Those packages there are from three very concerned boys in Aizawa’s homeroom.”
Katsuki blinks. “The fuck?”
“Aw, Kacchan.” Izuku sidles up to him, smile stretching wide as Kacchan’s cheeks flush pink. “Your students love you!”
“It’s just those three,” Katsuki grumbles. “They latched on for some reason.”
“There are a few other teachers in the mix, but please feel free to open everything on your own time.” All Might checks to make sure he didn’t miss anything, helping Izuku to make a neat little pile on the kitchen counter. “I don’t wish to overwhelm you.”
“This is…so generous of everyone,” Izuku says, glancing from one bag to the next. He’s nosy, gosh, he does kind of want to tear into all of them right now, but Kacchan looks like he’d rather do literally anything else. He’s still red in the face and slightly bug-eyed, clearly flustered. “Thank you so much, All Might.” Continue reading at AO3. Through chapter 21 now posted!
