Me documenting my war on black beard algae
So, I think I mentioned that I have black beard algae on all my rocks and plants (only the anubias tho) that came over from my old tank. I was reading about how to get rid of it (it won't rub off!! Aaarrgghhh). One method is to spot treat with Hydrogen peroxide. Well, I haven't rooted my plants yet in my new tank, so I just put them all in a bucket with the water + hydrogen peroxide and after a couple of hours I was able to rub some of the algae off on most of the plants! It's not even near gone and I had to pluck off some bad leaves on some of them, but I think this is actually going to work. :D

So after getting horrible BBA on nearly every plant, I did a 3tbsp per 10gal H2O2 treatment and then blacked out the tank for two days while I went away for the weekend. I came back to dozens of new leaves and NO algae except for a few red dying strands!! It even got rid of 90% of the gunk built up in the HOB intake tubes! I’m so excited!
...now I’ve just gotta figure out a lighting + fert + water change regimen that doesn’t bring all the algae roaring back with a vengeance. Wish me luck.
