Happy Friday my friends. This morning, I was given an email and a phone call, both from my PA, Nancy. She told me that my hemoglobin A1C came back a 4.9- diabetes is 5.7 or higher. Which means I am at an absence of diabetes as it says in the image. My PA also said my cholesterol was “Perfect.” I wept for a few minutes. This entire process of health and wellness has been a struggle and some days felt like I was skiing uphill. But I have a great medical team who have collaborated with me to devise the best course of action in my treatment for diabetes, and other ailments ( please know my triglycerides were once over 1500). To quote the great Stephanie Mills, “I feel good all over.” To celebrate this milestone, I found some books online, did a half hour workout, treated myself to an egg white omelette for breakfast (and lunch because they’re my favorite thing ever, especially with veggie bacon), and some decaf coffee. This morning, I weighed in at 147.2 lbs. which puts me 88lbs down from my summer weight, and 144lbs from my heaviest weight of 291 lbs. (which I have been that size since 2007). The numbers you see in the images are why I’ve been working so hard- the weight loss is a fringe benefit of my hard work. I will say my ankles and knees don’t hurt anymore and going up and down stairs feels like flying. Please know, having access to all of these new ways of being are a massive mark of privilege - that will never be lost on me. As I go back in to social media seclusion, I’m going to maintain focus, keep working, and scheduling all the work I do in addition to prioritizing health and fitness. Who knows? Maybe I’ll work my way up to a marathon or a bike race, or do what I would love to start doing, welterweight/lightweight bodybuilding. Also, keep reading and writing about the work I love to do (see: performance studies, Afrofuturism). And also, figure out why my email isn’t working (my evening project - thanks SIU)! Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. No matter your goals, be them mundane or monumental, your dreams are valid. May no one take your power. Take care of yourselves and always be kind. #GoalsToPersue #Blackademic https://www.instagram.com/p/CLNbHCcj-lg/?igshid=ytjc2j09sdvs

A moderate walk to the office, caffeine and some digging. This is how I do my Sundays. #Blackademic https://www.instagram.com/p/B3As8u4ndfw5WdfxLNMJn2VUq0JAtFczBDTH6c0/?igshid=afokqe6istcc
