Street artist Hego's artwork #blackanzac up on the wall at the Aboriginal Housing Company on the Block in Redfern. The mural of Indigenous serviceman; Mr Alfred Cameron jnr (1890-1949) a descendent of the Temprominjirie and Milmanjirie clans of the Coorong in South Australia that was installed in Redfern on 22 April 2014 on the wall of the Aboriginal Housing Company. Cameron who was 24 years old when he enlisted in 1914 saw action in the middle east and served in the 1st Light Horse brigade. Hego was inspired to self fund and erect the mural by hand after reading the poem Black Anzac by Cecil Fisher (1933). Hego says "Indigenous military service for Australia is a story that’s been seriously underrepresented in popular culture and schools. Through Streetart we can help tell this important part of our history and give the acknowledgement and respect they deserve". All photos are copyrighted by the photographer Kimberley Low.
