After 3 day phone detox update:
So… I ended up getting the BlackBerry KeyOne, and honestly it just made the most sense. The whole no GPS thing started to really weigh on me. And God forbid something were to happen and I was stuck with a phone that barely gets service… I’d be stranded. The KeyOne’s GPS works great. It doesn’t have CarPlay, so it doesn’t sync with my car but hey, I can still get around safely, and that matters.
The KeyOne is definitely more accessible when it comes to apps. I can download things more easily, which could be a good thing or a slippery slope. So now, whenever I pick up the phone, I pray. I literally ask the Holy Spirit to help me fight the urge.
Because yes, it’s a new phone. It’s set up the way I like it. It’s tempting. But I don’t want to be tempted into mindless habits again.
With my iPhone, I’d download an app, scroll for no reason, and afterwards feel completely drained. And that’s what these phones do sometimes. They suck the life out of you. They space you out of the real world, out of the present.
This week, I caught up with some friends in person after my phone detox. I didn’t have my phone on me and I noticed how distracted some of them were when their phones went off. It hit me: I used to be like that. And if I ever left anyone feeling unseen or unheard in a conversation because of my phone, I’m genuinely sorry.
I’m also hoping to return the BlackBerry Classic. I realized it was sold by a private seller, and the phone is way too slow not ideal for emergencies. When I requested a refund, they told me I’d need to pay for shipping, and if they don’t find any issues, they won’t refund me. That felt sketchy to me. Like what's to stop them from switching out the device or denying the claim?
I read about Amazon’s A-to-Z Guarantee, which protects buyers in cases like this. So I’m praying it all goes smoothly and fairly.
