Hi, I wanted to ask you a question about triton. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want! I was just wondering how you decided that the time was right for him? It’s just I have an older male betta who can’t swim right any more and hasn’t been able to for months. But he still manages to eat most days if I hand feed him. I’ve tried everything, salt baths, meds, moving him to another tank but he never improves. How do you decide that it’s best for them? Thank you. - catchthesefins <3
Hey there! Months ago, I would have never thought I would be able to euthanize Triton, because the idea was absolutely frightening and I was afraid something would go wrong. I thought Triton would pass away quickly, like my boy Talos, but it ended up being months and months and months and he was no longer my little wiggly boy with open curiosity and hunger for life, but a very sick boy who would sit in one spot 24 hours a day, and having to go up for air every minute. My Triton was now just existing. I couldn’t watch my poor boy suffer any longer, and I made one of the hardest decisions of my life.
I will admit, it did not go entirely smoothly. In actuality the entire process was very quick, but for me it felt like HOURS. Even so, it is better that he is now resting, rather than living for nothing, only suffering.
I loved my Triton with all my heart. I would do anything for him, even if it meant living without him. Even if it meant having to put him to sleep.
It’s a hard decision. The deciding factor for me was seeing that he would continue to live without living. Only you can decide if it’s time to say goodbye, and I hope this somewhat helped. I wish the best for you and your boy ❤️
