Someone asked me my thoughts on "Community"....this is was my response. COMMUNITY is.........is a group of people that ask me "what's wrong" when I don't look like everything is alright. Who encourage me to keep going when I'm doing well, and be honest with me when I can do better. Who come looking for me when I have gone missing and who smile and welcome me with open arms when I find my way back from being lost. People who hold a safe space for me to be able for me to be myself when the world and society says I am too different. A group of people that celebrate their differences, their diversity because they realize that the people that are most different from yourself are the people who have the potential to teach you the most. I would add to that my mama always told me...."if you're the smartest one in the room, you're in the wrong room" and "if everyone in your circle looks just like you, find you another circle". I am a smarter, more objective, more compassionate person because of the diversity of people and thought that I surround myself with. Coworkers, teachers, teammates, coaches and homies.....I am better because of them. Next time take a look at your circle. No shade, no judgment.
