IT’S THE CLASSIC TEENAGE ROMANCE STORY ! Girl meets girl, girl is a bully, girl and girl hate each other, girl doesn’t really hate other girl but she doesn’t know how to love and can’t express feelings properly because of her need to assert dominance and protect her heart, other girl becomes superhero, girl idolizes ( and kind of falls in love) with superhero, girl doesn’t know superhero is other girl, girl honestly likes both incarnations of girl but it’s difficult for her, girl and girl currently don’t have a happy ending !

The most important distinction between Chloé’s relationships with both girls is that neither one is the most genuine it could be. She absolutely idolizes Ladybug but there isn’t a true friendship there yet, and she does all of these terrible things to Marinette but really she’s just jealous, insecure, and lonely and she doesn’t really hate her. This is mostly Chloé’s fault, for being the way she is with people, but it’s also got something to do with the fact that Marinette is both people and Chloé doesn’t realize that. 

Underneath the mask, Ladybug is Marinette and without the mask, Marinette is still Ladybug. They’re the same person. The love that Chloé has for Ladybug and the way that they can both work so well together sometimes could so easily be applied to her relationship with Marinette as well. I honestly believe that Chloé and Marinette could be really amazing friends if they worked at it. I have this whole headcanon about how Chloé would be the best person to have on your side if you have a secret identity. 

Chloé didn’t use to hate Marinette this much. Before Alya arrived, Chloé and Marinette put up with each other. Maybe she targeted her more than their other classmates because Mari is pretty and kind and everything Chloé wants to be but isn’t. Post Alya’s arrival, everything set off because Chloé isn’t used to people talking back to her, fighting her, proving her wrong. It’s embarrassing for her and, as much as she wouldn’t like to admit it, she’s doesn’t like who she is. She thinks that making fun of people makes her feel better because at least their pain is now greater than hers, but in reality, all she really wants is to not feel pain.

Marinette is this symbol of perfection. She’s not perfect but in Chloé’s eyes, she’s got everything she hasn’t. She’s got an adoring, loving, functioning family (especially a mother who stayed), she’s incredibly talented at fashion design, everyone loves her, and Chloé knows Marinette might just end up with Adrien at the end of the day.

She’s her natural enemy because Marinette is everything Chloé wants to be but can’t stand to have directed at her. And way deep down, Chloé actually likes and respects Marinette like everyone else. There’s so much to like about her. She just needs to get over her insecurities

And Ladybug ? Well Ladybug is a step up from Marinette and she’s absolutely godsent for Chloé’s affections. A masked saviour of Paris, beloved by the people. Chloé doesn’t have to worry about her being a threat because she has a mask. There’s that anonymity there. She feels like she can adore her openly and admire her and tell her that she is who she wants to be because she doesn’t have to hide. Chloé doesn’t know Ladybug. Ladybug is a symbol, a figure, an ideal, someone that she can project onto without fear of retribution.

Also, Chloé definitely has a somewhat repressed gay crush on Ladybug.
