Prompt: Sirius and Marlene-Plots Foiled
Blackinnon fluff for you guys…..this prompt was really cool :) feel free to send in any requests xxx
It wasn’t that people hated Marlene McKinnon-because they didn’t, truly. It was quite the opposite, actually; people loved her, seemed to never get enough of the leggy blonde. Sure, there were a few Slytherins who couldn’t stand the sight of her-but when you were in Gryffindor, and friends with James Potter, that was bound to be the case. There really wasn’t a reason to dislike her at all-she was sweet, quiet, bookish…..likeable.
And it wasn’t that people hated Sirius Black, either. Admittedly, he had made a few more enemies that his girlfriend, having a tendency to shag the skirt off of every girl with legs, then drop their hearts in the dust without a second glance; not to mention the fact that the very last name “Black” was enough to warrant some hatred, but nothing to turn the entirety, or even the majority, of the school against him; no, he still maintained that charming persona that seemed to keep so many people under his thumb.
The problem wasn’t the beautiful blonde, or the handsome bachelor, rather…..it was the fact that they were together that had caused some unrest. Not from most people, admittedly, most were happy (a little amazed that Marlene had managed to tame someone like him), but there were always a few, a group of vengeful guys still hoping that Sirius would change his mind and decide to sweep them off of their feet, some guys who still lusted after Marlene.
And that is going to cause some problems, Marlene thought, despite her desperate efforts to banish all anxious thoughts from her mind, twirled a piece of hair around her finger nervously, trying to anticipate how much backlash would come to slap her in the face.
“Stop worrying, would you, Mar?” Mary Macdonald, hair freshly cut short and bangs straight and even (for once), bumped her shoulder into Marlene’s, swiping a searching eye over Marlene’s face and readjusting the bag on her shoulder.
“That’s impossible for you.” Rolling her eyes, Mary threw a friendly arm around Marlene’s shoulder, giving her a one armed squeeze, wishing it relieve the tension she could see visibly building up on her friend’s shoulders. Heaving a sigh, Marlene tossed a handful of waves over her shoulder, pinching herself around the wrist to keep from biting her lip so hard it would draw blood, like she had so many other times.
“I know I shouldn’t be worrying-I know that, of course I do-but…..I just…..I don’t know! I don’t understand why so many people seem to hate the fact that I’m dating him.”
“Well, first of all,” Mary began, straightening her posture and flipping her bangs out of her eyes, like she did whenever she slipped into her ‘motherly role’, “Only, like, eight people hate the fact that you’re dating him-and they’re all stupid and irrelevant, so you shouldn’t be paying attention to them anywhere. And secondly, they only hate it because you’ve done the impossible.”
“Gone out with a boy?” Marlene asked, a little laughter icing over the tension in her voice and she shot Mary a lopsided smile.
“Managed to get Sirius Black to commit to a relationship. Do you understand how hard that is?!”
“Well, um, not really. But, even so, that isn’t anything negative against them-”
“-look, Marlene, I’d love to talk about this, I really would, but why don’t you just go work it out with the devil himself?” Mary smirked, jutting her chin out towards the back of a familiar head of black hair, only slightly visible from behind a rather large column.
“Do you think he will-wait a minute, Mare, do you hear that?” Stopping short, like a fox sensing its prey nearby, Marlene froze in her place, cocking an ear towards the pillar with hunter-like concentration. “That sounds like…..”
And suddenly she was walking forward, Mary following behind her, treading lightly on the pads of her feet so to not reveal herself.
“Oh. My. God.” The words, though most would think they would be spoken by the girlfriend herself, came from the mouth of Mary Macdonald, brown eyes wider than saucers, angrier than a thunderstorm.
Marlene, on the other hand, stood stock still, much like she had a few moments before, hand halfway to brush itself through her hair, staring at the spectacle in front of her. There, not even five feet away, stood Sirius Black, eyes open and horrified, seemingly having his mouth attacked by a petite, redheaded Hufflepuff, looking as if he had no idea how he got into this predicament in the first place.
“You know what, Mary? I think I’m uh…...can you tell Lily and everyone that I’ll be down later? I forgot something in my dorm.” Turning swiftly, resolving to not spare the scene in front of her a second glance, Marlene planted her feet firmly on the ground to keep from running away, attempting to walk at a slow pace down the corridor, but quick enough to take her away from Sirius Orion Black.
“Marlene, just….hold on!” Pretending not to hear, Marlene just walked faster, mumbling the password to the Fat Lady before slipping in through the portrait hole, beginning to shut it back firmly before a hand flew between its hinges, pushing back on the portrait harder than Marlene could; successfully pushing it open. “Okay, Marlene, just stop. Hang on, would you-”
“-I just need to get something from my-” Marlene was cut short by a hand grasping onto her elbow, pulling her backwards a good three feet, until she was face to face with the one person she couldn’t bear to see. “Sirius, it’s fine, I really do need to just look for a book-”
“Bullshit you need to look for a book.” Sirius rolled his eyes as his frown deepened, something that only spiked the slightest bit of irritation in usually calm, collected Marlene.
“Well what did you expect me to do? Stand there and watch you suck the face of some girl-”
“-that’s not what was going on-”
“-oh really? Then what was it, exactly? Were you teaching her how to do mouth-to-mouth?”
“Just listen!” Sirius hated to yell at Marlene, he really, really did, but he needed to explain what had really happened, before she got any more ideas.
“I didn’t kiss her! Well, I did-”
“-but it wasn’t my choice. Look, I swear to damn Merlin, Mar, she just walked up to me. Started asking me why I would ever go out with you, shit like that, and then she just…..kissed me!”
“Sirius, no offense, but that sounds like the biggest load of bull I’ve ever heard. You’re telling me that somebody just hates us so much that they felt the need to ruin……” Trailing off, Marlene couldn’t help but let the pieces of the puzzle fall together in her mind, confirming that that was indeed what had happened. It made sense, didn’t it? Mary might have been right about the number of people who hated their relationship, but she sure as hell had underestimated their ruthlessness.
“Might ruin us. I know.” Sighing, Sirius screwed his eyes shut, running a hand through his artfully tousled hair before opening them again, placing his hands softly on Marlene’s shoulders. “Look, I know this may be hard to believe, and everything, but I like you. Not just your face of your hair or whatever, but you. And I don’t want to screw that up-or anyone else to screw that up, for the matter.”
“I just…...I don’t know. I don’t understand what makes them think that it’s okay to try and ruin someone’s relationship like that.”
“Because not everyone’s a good person like you.” Sirius shrugged, staying solemn for a minute before letting a small smirk slide onto his face.
“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Oh…..no reason. Just…..you know…..there are ways that we could show them that it’s not okay….”
“Violence is not the answer, what have I told you before?”
“I’m not talking about violence, per sae, just…...revenge.” Sirius smirked, wrapping an arm around Marlene’s shoulder, mind racing with a thousand mischievous ideas.
“Well, in that case, I might just…..possibly be the tiniest bit interested.”
“Ah ha!” Pumping his fist triumphantly in the air, Sirius let his smirk turn into a full-on smile. “Welcome to the world of “fun”, Miss McKinnon, it only took you six years.”
