Tyler, Dallas “I just remember at some point having a realization of all the “Black people are all athletic” or “Black people need to enjoy hip hop” or “Talking white versus talking black” conversations going on around me, and realizing that no matter who I am or what I do, others will have their perceptions of who I am and who they think I’m supposed to be… Being a black man is understanding who I am, what people I’ve come from, and celebrating it in every which way. Black people can be anything and black people can do anything. That’s not to say that others can’t. It’s a push to say that we simply can…we’re hyper-sexualized and loved and at the same time villainized and hated. We continue to push through it all. It’s even something to enjoy and embrace… I feel like black people should look into everything imaginable. The realistic look of the world is that there’s a disparate proportion of black to nonblack in a lot of corporate arenas. I’ve worked in engineering and in law. We ain’t there. Rather than thinking of this as a means to limit us, I think of it as a marketable tool. Black people think outside of the box, are readily able to learn and solve problems, and often charismatic…Black Culture is the culmination of our history, our experience, and what we do with it moving forward. It’s in our words, in our movements, or food, and in each experience. Black Culture is everything in between. And it’s good.” 👑✊🏾
