『 EVENT 001. 』
THE SEARCH PARTY
OCTOBER 14TH, 1991. 05:00.
The chiming of static greets every household. The daily radio broadcast, now a staple of the town culture, begins - strangely enough - an hour and a half earlier than usual. Still, the broadcaster’s voice is not short of its usual cheer as it wishes Blackpine a good morning.
“Good morning, neighbors! It’s your host Josh Goodman, Blackpine’s most famous voice. Looks like we’ve got another lovely day ahead of us. Going to start off with some tough news here: the Blackpine Sheriff Department has informed us that an abandoned vehicle prsumed to be Ms. Abigal Myers’ has been found a few meters past town limits. Ms. Myers hasn’t been located as of yet, but we sure hope for her speedy return! On a jollier note, today’ll be quite the sunny day. Make sure to carry some sun screen with you, and as always, have a pleasant one!”
There are comprehensive nods from the housewives and their spouses as the segment ends, and a familiar upbeat tune reminiscent of rockabilly echoes within the unnervingly white walls of each house.
OCTOBER 14TH, 1991. 18:00.
After the radio broadcast, the sheriff and his colleagues seal off the area of the crash. Experts gather evidence, bag it up like it were a brunch snack, and go on their merry ways after having photographed and documented all that was required to be. With Abigail still missing, the authorities have requested the help of the town, and have summoned them all to the area to begin a search party. In an attempt not to force anyone out of their workplaces early yet make use of the remaining daylight, the Sheriff Department has called for the residents to join at 6:00 P.M, after which they will be going through the wooden area (and asking around the neighborhood if they so wish) for a couple hours. Families aren’t discouraged from bringing in their children, and groups of friends and relatives of the missing get together with flashlights and canteens to spare. The tension and uncertainty seems to cloud the air, and there are frantic questions that, while left unsaid, are very much present in the heads of many: where is Abigail, and what happened to her?
