I’ve drawn her once I’ll draw her again- as a late #blacktosilm + a Happy TDoV2015 - Galadriel!
I got a prompt a while ago to draw her as black and trans, and I think it would be super interesting if her being trans was just not addressed within the history of the world?? Also the dual-gendered nature of her mother name would take on a whole new meaning (and ultimately Galadriel’s choosing to go by the name given to her by the man who fell in love with her- a name that goes beyond her gender).
I think I have really improved at faces and I love the way her skin tones turned out. Not very happy with the clothes on this one though. I ran out of time and ended up having to rush. I might redo them in the future. I’m pretty satisfied with the afro, although it was much harder to do than I expected.
Finally finished a piece of art! I can hardly believe it. This is Melian for BlacktoSilm Week. I decided to draw her here the last time she sees Lúthien.
"But Melian looked in her eyes and read the doom that was written there, and turned away; for she knew that a parting beyond the end of the world had come between them, and no grief of loss has been heavier than the grief of Melian the Maia in that hour." - Silmarillion p. 188
I was submitting it for a contest on DeviantArt so I ended up rushing and not being able to add as many highlights for the light as I wanted. So I may go back and work on it a little more, but overall I am really happy with it. Sorry I made it sad... Enjoy!
Edit: Hey guys! I’ve had a lot of people asking about my references. I used images of Beyoncé for nose, eyes, forehead, upper face. I wanted kind of a squarer jaw so I used images of Lupita Nyong’o as references for lower face, jaw, and chin. I’m really happy there has been so much support for this. I would really like to see more representation of people of color in fantasy art.
Míriel’s sister Silwë again...this time after Míriel’s death, carrying tiny Fëanor.
She became very close to her nephew after Míriel died. Even as an adult, Fëanor was very close to his mother’s family, and it was those bonds that made him try to reason with Olwë before the kinslayings, even as he was in the midst of madness.
GLORFINDEL was an elf-lord of gondolin who lived in the elder days. he was chief in the house of the golden flower, and one of the king's captains. he took no part in the kinslaying at alqualondë, and he came to middle earth with turgon's host. he defended gondolin when it was besieged by melkor's forces, and he battled the balrog and was dragged to his death. tolkien considered the possibility that he was reincarnated in gondolin of rivendell, possibly returned from the halls of awaiting as a companion of the istari.
