I have a weird thought about fantasy almost always set in places where the weather is mostly perfect.
Dwarves and Hobbits would be perfectly fine I need deserts or high deserts. Think about it, they live under the ground with hobbits in the entrance to the cavern system, and the dwarves much deeper below them mining for gold and water, trading with the hobbits closer to the surface. Humans and elves would probably see hobbits only while only seeing dwarves at night or in rare occasions. I can also see both leaving to scavange abandoned towns that are left to rot when other races try to colonize the arid, hot land to no avail.
Imagine how people in Cooper Petie (spelling probably wrong) in Australia where most of the town is underground and people living in their own small opal mines.
