Volunteering for kindergartens and foster-homes had started off as almost a fluke, having picked the activity randomly when his high-school had forced his grade to complete community service hours before they could graduate. But it’d quickly become a passion of his, following him even as he’d established himself as an artist. And, thankfully, the random spontaneous hours that he did actually spend painting allowed for a lot of spare time where he could actively be involved in making the world a better place -- and he’d always seen kids as being an important part of that. Especially when soon enough they’d be the ones who’d have to step up and be leaders and work to fix problems. So, it was unendingly rewarding to know that he could have an impact on them, teach them to be just a little bit more caring and open-minded when they were young.
Although he’d never truly formed a bond with any of the kids that passed through the kindergarten he volunteered at, knowing better than to get attached to someone who’d move on into the first grade once his work with them was done. But the shy little girl with a natural affinity for art had immediately captured his heart, and he found himself disarmed every single time she tugged on his shirt and asked him to play peek-a-boo or for him to paint something on her arm (she’d seen his tattoos one day and insisted that she wanted some of her own.) So, it had turned into an almost daily occurrence, every morning spent teaching the kids to draw and then spending a little extra time with Lily while the other kids played amongst themselves. Although today Nathan found himself with a couple of hours to spare, and he’d ended up volunteering his afternoon to the small kindergarten as well as his morning, and he couldn’t help but be excited that he’d finally be meeting her parents. He was just finishing up a small band of flowers that wove up from Lily’s fingers towards her elbow, when he noticed someone approaching, head glancing up to take in a woman who looked remarkably like the little girl beside him. { @blackxxmagicx }
