      ❝ don’t tell me — is it a love letter? ❞ a teasing question, accompanied by a familiar dazzling smile. blue eyes seem to soften as he gazes at the other for a moment — & it’s with startling clarity that he’s reminded how lucky he is, even if they’ve yet to officially title their relationship. it takes a long moment for the dizzying rush of affection to withdraw, pulling him from his thoughts as he clears his throat.       ❝ you didn’t have to get me anything, ❞ nonetheless, he reaches out to pluck the red envelope from the others hand, passing off his own gifts in the same fluent movement, ❝ i’m trying to spoil you. only the best for my — ❞ he hesitates, not sure how to finish the statement, ❝ only the best for you. ❞

     his focus is stolen away from his book by the soft creak of his door opening further than it’s ajar state he’d left it in.  the steps following are QUIET, but heavy.  an easy telltale to their owner. there’s only one person he can possibly pinpoint them to, and who would visit the sorcerer unexpectedly.  merlin sounds a hum, seemingly NAIVE of his presence as nimble fingers turn a page.  abruptly, he breaks the silence.   ❛   is there something that you need  ?   ❜

     ❛    i suppose i do.   ❜    words merely echo of arthur’s accusation                       a TRUTHFUL accusation at that.  omittance was a NASTY habit clinging to the sorcerer’s demeanor.  certain details weren’t MEANT to be voiced.  often these things he neglects to inform arthur of aren’t relevant or it’s the wrong time, wrong place                      everything is wrong.  most things he’d just rather not disclose.   ❛    what of it then ?  has your OPINION on the matter changed with this morsel of information ?  if the answer is no, this conversation is null.  ❜
