New project coming soon to North Huntsville. The North Huntsville Public Library and Berachah park will become a hub for numerous community activities. Another adaptive reuse of an existing facility complete with a community park including pickleball courts, playgrounds, calistenic area, walkingtrails, sportsfield, large and small pavilions and a communitygarden area. Enjoyed working with the City of Huntsville, Huntsville Parks and Recreation, Fuqua and Partners and Johnson &Associates on this project.

John Hunt Park Cross Country Running Course

As part of an Adaptive Reuse project, the former site of an unkept municipal golf course was turned into a running park. The City of Huntsville officially opened the new running course at the John Hunt park on Friday September 21st and on Saturday the 22nd, the first race was held with over 2000 high school runners participating. The course was designed by BLA and includes dedicated racing lengths of 2 miles, 5k, 6k, 8k, and 10k paths to be able to host running events from the Middle School level through NCAA sanctioned events. As part of the project, 2.1 miles of ADA accessible hardscaped walking trails were constructed utilizing permeable materials of recycled tires and elimated approximately 30,000 tires from the waste stream. The running park is used daily by city residents both on the turf course and the accessible course for exercise and outdoor enjoyment.

James Clemens High School Landscape Design Class I was invited to serve as a juror for these students conceptual design projects for a small space on their campus. This was the first year that a class like this was taught to students and there were some great ideas that came out of this class. From fountains to gathering areas to sculpture gardens, the students really thought about how the space could be utilized in several different ways. Looking forward to seeing what these kids and this class can do.
