Private Residence Huntsville Alabama
What began as a master plan some 15 years ago has turned into this beautiful oasis. No detail was overlooked for this farmhouse, from the pool which appears to be a pond, to the stone columns for the fence down to the pickets of the fence. Watching and working on refining the details of this site over the past decade has been an amazing experience.
Midtown Elementary School, Madison Alabama
With continued growth, Madison Alabama developed the need for a new elementary school. As part of the design, two learning courtyards are the highlight of this project. With an integral sundial in one and a compass in the other, both courtyards are imagined to help teach students outside of the classroom. Outdoor play was also a part of the design with basketball courts, age appropriate playgrounds and a running track provide numerous opportunities to get outside and let young minds reset to better concentrate in the traditional classroom settings. Shade trees are provided throughout the site to establish borders as well as to reduce the heat island effect in the parking lot.
Watermark at Cliff Farms. Multi family design. BLA performed the design for the pool shape, clubhouse courtyard which contains outdoor grilling, shade structures, large umbrellas and ample lounge areas. The complex has a dog park, dog stations throughout, a community outdoor lawn for lawn gaming, dedicated space for fowling, a fire pit area, and an additional grilling station.
New project coming soon to North Huntsville. The North Huntsville Public Library and Berachah park will become a hub for numerous community activities. Another adaptive reuse of an existing facility complete with a community park including pickleball courts, playgrounds, calistenic area, walkingtrails, sportsfield, large and small pavilions and a communitygarden area. Enjoyed working with the City of Huntsville, Huntsville Parks and Recreation, Fuqua and Partners and Johnson &Associates on this project.
John Hunt Park Cross Country Running Course
As part of an Adaptive Reuse project, the former site of an unkept municipal golf course was turned into a running park. The City of Huntsville officially opened the new running course at the John Hunt park on Friday September 21st and on Saturday the 22nd, the first race was held with over 2000 high school runners participating. The course was designed by BLA and includes dedicated racing lengths of 2 miles, 5k, 6k, 8k, and 10k paths to be able to host running events from the Middle School level through NCAA sanctioned events. As part of the project, 2.1 miles of ADA accessible hardscaped walking trails were constructed utilizing permeable materials of recycled tires and elimated approximately 30,000 tires from the waste stream. The running park is used daily by city residents both on the turf course and the accessible course for exercise and outdoor enjoyment.

Recently completed updates creating a public park at the location where Alabama became a State in 1819.
Latest rendering for the new Somerville at Fleming Farms Retirement living complex. This site is just off Whitesburg Drive and features multiple courtyards with different amenities for the residence from a putting green to a fire pit, water features and outdoor dining areas.
Recently got to do some advocating on Capital Hill for Alabama ASLA! It was a great learning experience and another fun time in our Capital!
