Day 2: Canon Divergence

Blam Week 2015: Day 2 fic

Set during Guilty Pleasures.

** ** ** “Do you have feelings for me?”

What?  That was such an odd question.  Of course he had feelings for Blaine.  Blaine was his best friend.  To be honest, Sam had never had a friend like him, someone who just...got him and accepted him for exactly who and what he was.  It was kind of...freeing, being able to just be himself without having to try to live up (or down) to the expectations of anyone else.  He wanted to hang out with Blaine all the time and just...okay, so Britt had asked a few times if Sam returned Blaine’s crush, but…everyone had those kinds of dreams about their best friend, right?  Britt said she did, but her best friend was Santana, so that wasn’t really the same thing...or was it…..

“Yeah.”

Wait, what?  His mouth was always doing that, speaking before his brain really processed things.  Mom always said Sam spoke with his heart, not his head.  Which could be both bad and good.  Right now...well, it seemed to be a good thing because Blaine’s eyes got all wide and happy and he was looking at Sam like he had said the most amazing thing.

No one ever looked at him like that except Blaine.

“Really?” Blaine asked, voice tinged with hope.  

Sam nodded, still processing things in his head.  “Yeah...I mean, I don’t...I don’t know how to explain it really, but...you’re...you.  And I’m me and….”

“You weren’t looking for these feeling, they just happened and they feel right?” Blaine asked and Sam sighed with relief.

“Yes.  Exactly,” he replied, nodding, then he shook his head ruefully.  “I’m still trying to...sort it all out, you know?  Cuz….”

“Because you weren’t expecting to ever like a guy?” Blaine asked, then he blinked.  “Sam, Brittany….”

“I think she figured it out before I did,” Sam assured Blaine.  “We broke up last week.  She’s going to try to get back with Santana.  She kept saying mea and you are like her and Santana...I guess maybe she was right.”

Blaine nodded and gave Sam one of those smiles that seemed to warm him from the inside out.  “Take all the time you need to sort out your thoughts and feelings, Sam.  I’ll be here,”

For once, Sam believed that someone he cared for (other than a family member) would live up to that promise.  He was always the one who had to make the extra effort, who had to pursue a relationship.  Blaine...well, he wanted Sam too.

“I’d so hug you now, but….Locker room,” Sam said, glancing around at the lockers.

Blaine nodded, chuckling a little his eyes twinkling.  Sam was totally going to hug him later.  And if a kiss followed….well, that would be pretty cool too.
