“The Modern Dance” was Pere Ubu’s 1978 debut LP (although it looks like “Dub Housing” came out at the same time). Allmusic states in its review, “Mercury had no idea what they had on their hands when they released this as part of their punk rock offshoot label Blank, but it remains a classic slice of art-punk.” “Non-Alignment Pact” is the only song available on the Bandcamp page but this link takes you to the entire album on YouTube. I highly recommend “Chinese Radiation” as well.
I posted about Pere Ubu’s “Terminal Tower” compilation back in October 2019. At the time I mentioned how I’d tried to like Pere Ubu several times and could never get over their avant-garde tendencies that to me disrupted perfectly good songs. Well, clearly their earlier work, while still plenty experimental, doesn’t have as many jarring/interrupting moments. David Thomas’ vocals are still intense, but the instruments - particularly the drums and bass always hold this music together.
I hear the sounds of contemporaries Talking Heads, Devo, and Mission of Burma (who covered “Heart of Darkness” for their “Horrible Truth About Burma” album. I still think Minutemen must have loved Pere Ubu.
Pere Ubu were a band from Cleveland. Fire Records reissued “The Modern Dance” in 2015.

Learned Trump was president through a Destiel confession meme and that feels about right.
I take a two hour break from the internet to draw and I come back and LIAM PAYNE DIED.
The Minecraft movie should’ve just been a retelling of the hit Fallen Kingdom series by CaptainSparklez and I’m about 80% positive people would be more on board than they are right now.
My next D&D character is a whore vampire and I feel like that sums up my interests pretty well.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! I’m a 20 year old, which means…
