hi!!! 18. A favorite Ilya quote?
"here is view hollander, check it out!" yes it's mostly funny but that entire scene makes me want to eat rocks. ilya's roundabout, failed attempt at an emotional bid. there is so much he's not saying and that shane is missing in this interaction and the only way ilya can express the fact that he is dreading going home, that he does not want to face his father, that he is leaving and he knows his bad mood ruined the night, ruined the last chance he to spend time with shane, he wants to apologize, he has nothing to apologize for, he's gotten so close to something good, a few things that are good, and he can't hold onto them for long enough - it all comes out as frustration, as annoyance, as an inability to articulate the mix of emotions he's feeling, at fucking up, at losing, at so many things, both to do with shane and nothing at all to do with shane. and he can't tell shane why he doesn't want to go home and what that all entails so he does this instead. my emotionally repressed bad boy. and the fumbled, desperate kiss ouggghh. they are so young, so inexperienced, they're going to hurt each other and hurt each other and fall in love and not know what to do with it! even then!
24. A favorite outfit from season 1?
oh there are so many, SO many. so many iconic looks with their accompanying iconic moments. is the look iconic because of the moment or vice versa?
okay, purely iconic look regardless of the context: vintage jean paul gaultier leopard print shirt. what more needs to be said. even if they were having a great time, it would still be incredible and wild.
a look that is good but relies on the context of the scene: shane's outfit of choice when him and ilya go to his parent's to talk. the comfy, slightly rumpled shirt that his mom bought him. i think the costume designer framed it as yuna picking clothes for shane like linen that require higher maintenance as a signal of their slightly fraught but considerate relationship and i love it, but i also love seeing it as a deliberate choice (and maybe the costume designer said this, too) on shane's part, that he's saying: hey, look, it's still me. still the son you bought this shirt for, that you thought i'd like. that i'd wear. it's still me, in here. you know me.
