New blog post link on my profile💕 Christmas market vibes 🎄 with @alexasearth Can’t wait for Bali with this gem💎💕 - LET’S TALK INSTAGRAM! I’m pretty overwhelmed by the amount of people who joined the #blankproject yesterday! Today I want to reflect on the Instagram algorithm changes in a different light. The question is: Has Instagram really become more unfair? Most of us only look at their stagnating follower growth, halved number of likes and older pictures in their feed. Sure, we do want to see the latest posts but we also want to make sure we don’t miss out friends’ posts, right? And how does Instagram find out who are your friends? By checking interaction rates. That’s why you always see the same people on your feed. I found out that if you purposely visit a person’s profile a few times they will show up at the top again. How about we rethink whether this algorithm might also have its positive sides?🙃 And now let’s talk about the drop in engagement we have experiencing. I remember a time when I used to wonder why some people with really crappy pictures used to have 100k followers and 10k likes until I learned that the more active you are the more followers you get (=quantity over quality?) - that was the old algorithm. Now Instagram has stepped up the game. Now you have to post VERY GOOD pictures to be seen and it’s not enough to just be active in the community. So perhaps the new algorithm is more fair than the old one in terms of engagement for quality? In my opinion, instagram is taking it to the extreme right now with everyone hardly gaining any followers. So I would prefer a halfway house between the old and the new algorithm. What would a FAIR Instagram look like for you?☺️ (at Baden-Württemberg, Germany)
