Mary (Bryant) Wigley Blansett and some Unknowns
When I started researching Mary E. Bryant of Dade County, Georgia (and later, of Jackson County, Alabama), I did not know her age and did not know that she had remarried to a Blansett. Her daughter, Sally, was then still living and confirmed the Blansett marriage, which I later found in the marriage records and found referenced in a Wigley/Blansett land grant or deed transfer. When I discovered the Blansett connection, I also discovered that the couple had adopted Minnie Oiler (also confirmed by grandmother). Since I did not know the exact relationship of the Oilers, I studied any Oiler who might be related to, or mistaken for, Mary. I also looked at neighbors, unknown residents of the household, and any Mary of roughly the same age in the Jackson/Marion/Dade area. While searching for Mary (before I knew her age and while I was still unsure of the dates of marriage), I studied other similar Marys. This is a scrap that lists the different individuals I was trying to compare:
[Wigley/Smith/Oyler/Blanset Comparison]: List of related, unknown relation, and similar names. Comparing various women named Mary. Also including Ida unknown Blansett: Mary J. Wigley Oyler (b. unknown, before 1870) Mary E. Bryant Wigley (b.1859-1860) Mary Wigley Smith (b.1863) Mary unknown Withers (b.1860) Mary [Bryant] Wigley Blansett (b.1859-1860) Ida unknown Blansett (b.1875) Be wary of relating the people on the list. Some names are duplicates (maiden/married/widowed) and some are probably unrelated. The list was used for comparison only! I have no notes to say where I found the individuals listed at the bottom ~ whether in census or other records, but my research centered on Dade County, Georgia, Jackson County, or Marion County, Tennessee. I am simply saving this scrap for future reference, if needed. * * * * * * *
