     It wasn’t so much the jumpscare that had yielded a reaction from Rip, but Fenton’s scream that had caused the roadrunner to leap with the same outcry.

     “wH-AAAAHH!” came the yelp, and Rip’s fearful hands blindly reached for the thing nearest him to grab onto and hold as if his life depended on it.

     Fear subsided, and sense trickled back in. Rip found that the thing he had grabbed for dear life had been Fenton himself, or his shirt sleeve, anyway.

     Releasing his clinging grip and straightening his own dark jacket collar with an red-faced ‘ahem’, Rip spoke, “Don’t DO that, man..”
