hello ~ im a new blog here. I really love your blog so much. Thank you for taking so much time to collected and make lists for fanfic recs. And also for remembering every bts fanfics and helped the readers and the writers here. Youre really amazing. ♡
I was wondering do you have any tips to the readers if they want to leave review about the fics? I mean what should we focus on when we give the review? I see how you review the fics and i feel like youre an expert or knows well about review and writing things, and i wanna be like that too. I want to leave a good review to the writer so they’ll know i really appreciate their hardworks.
Im sorry if im being annoying, you can ignore me if you want.
But once again, i really appreciate your blog! Thanks for the hardwork ♡
🌷 Hello there! Welcome to tumblr and I hope you enjoy your stay! 🤗 I am thankful for your wonderful comments about my blog but I don’t think I am an expert or anything when it comes to leaving comments! I am just...chatty 😁. I basically just share what I love about the fic (story, the way it’s written, maybe the characters, a favorite scene, how I feel, etc). Anything that made the fic stand out to me.
Someone actually asked me before about leaving comments and you’d find my answer here PLUS some authors shared their thoughts on this too. I also stumbled upon this wonderful comment by @arizonapoppy about the misconception of commenting on fic and I also agree. I don’t comment on every fic I’ve reblogged on my main account (where all ongoing fics I am reading get reposted). I don’t put comments when I don’t have time or energy too. This is related to what @arizonapoppy posted. I just try to be consistent with reblogs on ggukkiereads (because I already started this blog with reactions and proper tagging so I wanted uniformity too)
Other thoughts below the cut:
※ it’s not a critique (so if you feel like what you are going to say is not constructive or more on criticism, best to not continue with reacting to the fic).
First, you are not editor and they are not looking for one. They are just sharing these for fun. So, I think just reacting with things you enjoyed about the fic is the best reaction. There were times I shared what could’ve worked but I try to not make it sound like I am criticizing? An example can be found here and the author responded to it this way:
Okay, now this is tricky because what if another author finds offense or think you are criticizing them (actually I wasn’t really if you read my comments) but you can’t really tell since it’s all online and it’s hard to tell when just reading stuff without seeing the person face to face. So, I guess stick with less critiques on their writing and more of what you like about the whole fic.
※ I also do not write reviews in hopes that the author will respond.
It’s great when they do because I love interaction and sometimes the author will mention interesting tidbits about the story. I just really love writing down my thoughts about stories/characters and I feel like I will explode if I keep all these feelings to myself.
I also noticed that some readers actually like to read comments? I’ve received a lot of messages from others saying they appreciate my "reviews”. Or they had the same thoughts about the story but they couldn’t articulate it. I guess it helps hype the fic or give others an idea what type of vibes the fic has too (as long as you don’t put too many spoilers).
※ Something I personally do with my reactions:
I used to put emojis to indicate how fluffy, angsty, or smutty the fic is (example here). I still do this from time to time especially if the fic has so many genres/vibes. But it’s not required and I don’t pressure myself to put these vibes rating all the time. For example, if it’s just pwp (which is mostly smut) then it’d weird to be so strict with vibes rating. So, I guess the point is don’t get so boxed with how you review. It can be emojis. Others just scream about the fic and it doesn’t matter if it’s incoherent or even misspelled as long as they represent how much you love the author’s writing 💖
Good luck with your blog and I hope my very long response helped somewhat! 🥰
