((Hey, saw your tags on the Soul Reaper!Orihime fan art that you reblogged from me, and I gotta say I would TOTALLY read that! :) ))
Totally, right??! I mean, like....
Sora’s spirit staying around her house exposed Orihime to a sensitivity to spirits. It’s not as well-focused or even as strong as Ichigo’s, but she knows when something is there... she especially could feel when something big, violent, and hungry was around.
Orihime decides it’s best to stay far away whenever she feels these violent spirits, so she ends up discovering multiple different paths to school and the grocery store. It’s difficult, especially when after the violent spirits leave, she feels one ghost gone form the town or sees a huge accident on the news.
Then one day, she feels another one of those violent spirits... but this one is much worse-- it’s at Ichigo’s house!
Despite her fears, she runs as fast as she can to the Kurosaki Clinic, hoping to at least get there in time and run Ichigo’s family to one of her safe spots before anyone gets hurt...
But she’s too late; she sees a huge hole blown in the side of the house, Ichigo’s father laying unconscious somewhere in the wreck, Ichigo down for the count in the middle of the street, Karin close to him as if he had been shielding her... and the embodiment of the bone-shaking sensations she had felt in the form of a giant monster.
She was frozen with fear... what happened? What should she do? ...What could she do? Orihime was about to flat-out scream--
“You... g-girl...” a female voice choked out behind her.
Orihime spun to face a badly injured young woman garbed in black, wielding a sword. The woman’s dark blue eyes were desperate, and sparked with hope when they met Orihime’s slate grey ones. The woman raised her sword, pointing it at the girl’s chest.
“Do you.. want to save this boy’s family?” she coughed
She opened her mouth to question the woman in black, but cringed and squeezed her eyes shut when the monster let out a blood-curdling roar.
“We don’t have much time!” the woman yelled “If you truly want to save these people... take my sword and drive it through the center of your being. I will give you some of my power and you will have the ability to take down this Hollow. It will only be for a short time, but it will be enough...”
With tears brimming in her eyes, Orihime nodded, unsure of what else she could possibly do. The woman smiled kindly and held out her sword to the younger girl. She carefully grabbed the edge of the blade with both hands and held it to the center of her chest. The woman braced her arm to push it through, but paused.
“Girl... may I ask your name?” she asked
Orihime blinked, “My name is... Orhime Inoue.”
The woman in black nodded, “And my name... is Rukia Kuchiki.”
And with that, Rukia’s sword went through Orihime’s chest... and flooded her with an incredible white light filled with power...
