Bleach Day as if always Birdwatcher Vermont duo of Loui Kiley and Vinny Marksohn, aka Bleach Day released their sophomore album as if always when COVID-19 was still ‘something distant’ on some other shores. In other circumstances, this melancholic, low-key effort might have gone unnoticed among the glut of Bandcamp releases. Now that practically everybody has to stay home and listen to music, among other things, they might have a chance. And they should. The duo recorded and produced the album along with all their other musical projects. As they say, they have been “been perpetually occupied in their newly fortified analog home studio.” It took them two years to …

Bleach Day - bbs in the Grass
https://soundcloud.com/af-tapes/bbs-in-the-grass/s-mgUBS
Smooth mornings, sunlight through the curtains, someone made you breakfast, it’s sitting there, coffee fresh and hot. There’s a little purple flower in a tiny porcelain vase once long ago used for sauce at fancy dinner-parties, but this isn’t fancy, its friday morning and you’ve got no plans at all. Just go see where it’s going to take you. We send some love your way for the ride and so does Bleach Day. This definitely is the perfect soundtrack for such a morning and day <3 can’t wait what’s to come.
Anto Dust - Last (That I Saw You)
https://soundcloud.com/antodust/last-that-i-saw-you
Some really nice Alvvays kind of aesthetics happening on this tune from UK act Anto Dust. One thing that’s interesting is that they somehow sound almost Swedish? There’s some qualities that a lot of Swedish indie bands seems to have and it sounds like Anto Dust modeled some of that into some sort of British sound meets Alvvays’ish concoction. I’m very interested in where this can go
The Great Dictators - Play Dead Together

Solid “heavy” slacker vibes out of Copenhagen on this one from The Great Dictators. It’s funny, this tune seems very radio friendly but still manages to retain it’s indie credibility very well. Lead singer sounds like he’s got a lot more songs to nail before he settles down anywhere, I hope I’ll be lucky to hear some of those pass my way. Until then, you can enjoy this gem that was released not long ago. Worth nothing on this is the nod to Pixies at the beginning of the tune, I’m sure most of you noticed.

More pleasant, easy-listening lofi coming out of Australia these days. It might not be hitting any radio-stations, but it should be playing out of every speaker of teenagers bedrooms in the bush. This tune isn’t trying to impress anyone, also does it not need to, its just there if you’d like to enjoy it - and I think you should.
Red Giant Mirage - Killer Whale
https://soundcloud.com/brayden-willmott/2-killer-whale
It’s like a lofi road-trip with half of the Beatles and a drunk Tame Impala crew in the back of the van and everyone’s jammin’. I like that it’s not trying to be too massive or aiming for perfection. The lofi aesthetics fits this tune very very well and I’d love to put this on a cassette tape and pop it in an old pickup-truck and just go buy weird shit all day and then go to the beach to watch the sun set.
Dirty Nice - Love Team
I’m pretty sure that if David Bowie were born closer to this time, this is the kind of early tracks he would be making with things like Logic and Ableton Live available instead of a cassette deck. There’s some wonderful homemade lofi aesthetics present on this production that just sits really really nice. Experimental but keeping the melodies and not leaving anyone behind. I’m interested in what else will be coming out from this act.
Tromsø Complex - Glory Days

This is a pretty interesting take on lofi alternative “pop” - can I even call it pop? it might be that the melodies are trying to pull you that way, but there’s enough indie aesthetics to keep it grounded. There’s a buildup that keeps adding layers to the tune, I think my favourite is the beginnings when its more scattered and minimalistic, however the ending does climax pretty well! Thank you TC for the Glory Days!
Allegheny Drive - Ungrounded

There’s the psychedelic vibe going on, but it’s adding next levels with the chorusses - I’m not sure exactly what this reminds me of, but there was that Danish band called Oh No Ono at one point that I’m slightly going to recline on here - that is until the Mars Volta part kicks in around 2.30 and you’re going ‘I really want to know how this is like live’. Unfortunately these lads are located in Australia, so I’m just crossing fingers that they’ll take a trip north sometime this year <3
