Realistically, I think this is how Akilah’s hair should look in S3. There's no possible way for her dreads to mature this much in such a short amount of time in normal circumstances. However, these aren't normal circumstance. This is how I see her hair depending on shrinkage/moisture/breakage

Akilah’s hair IS quite thick and healthy as seen in the image below, but her hair looks like faux locs (Which is FINE for characters to have) but where would Akilah get braiding hair? Unless she saved her individuals, which,,, lol is kinda cute & real but idk.

I'm probably too nitpicky bc I’m Also a dreadhead but still that’s SIX months of progress from maturity to length that I can't get behind.
