Adventures in Outlining Being a Nerd
While brainstorming places for Elijah and Charlotte to snoop, I landed on city hall because of one of the suspects. But when I googled Fort Worth City Hall, it claimed the first one was built in 1893.
Bullshit.
The city’s much older than that and I’ve got an 1885 flat map with City Hall clearly labeled. So I went archive-diving and found a PDF with this quote: “Prior to the construction of the first city hall in 1877 (not extant), the first meetings of the mayor and council occurred in the county courthouse. […] In 1893, a larger city hall [...] replaced the 1877 building.”
Unable to find any photos however, my crazy ass spent ten minutes squinting at this 1886 map trying to find the damn thing.
It's a goddamn box! (Okay, with what looks like a little clock tower?) I only found it because the courthouse was recognizable. No wonder they replaced it. If city hall makes it into the story, I'm going to have Charlotte be like "...that's it?"
Frankly the courthouse looks way more interesting to snoop around in.... 👀
