A Baavira wedding (or what it would be like)??? I would love to see this as a fic, but I would also accept a headcannon too ;)
Hey! Thanks for the ask! One day I will work up the courage to write a baavira wedding fic (I’ve always felt like wedding scenes are really hard to execute well), but for now here are some headcanons!
Originally, they were planning for a really big wedding. News of their engagement was all over the society pages in Ba Sing Se and Republic City. However, after the fall of the Empire and the trial and an assassination attempt that came pretty close to succeeding, Kuvira had no desire to be back in the public eye.
Their second engagement was much quieter quieter and shorter—less than two months from the day Baatar proposed again to the start of their honeymoon.
The wedding bands were made from meteorites (Kuvira bends them herself).
Kuvira’s grandmother, who she had been very close to, took her astrology very seriously. To honor her memory, Kuvira hires a fortune teller to select an auspicious date for the ceremony. As a man of science, Baatar chafes at the idea of this, but ultimately doesn’t complain too much.
In return, Kuvira agrees to the idea of a three-week honeymoon even though the idea of taking that much time off from work is hard for her to wrap her head around.
They got married on a warm spring evening, out on the grounds of the University of Ba Sing Se. Both the ceremony and the reception were outdoors, and they had their first dance under the stars. The reception had cocktail party vibes—open bar, naturally.
The guest list was small and intimate. Only about 30 people attended, mostly Kuvira’s original metalbenders and Baatar’s university friends—chosen family. The only Beifong in attendance was Huan (he was invited to visit them over the weekend, and upon his arrival found out that they would be getting married). Toph watched from the swamp via her vines, though.
Korra was also invited and showed up. She mostly hovered around Huan because he was the only person she really knew there (besides the bride, who was understandably unable to entertain her). They became much better friends that weekend.
