Ugh! Why do I torture myself by joining Facebook Witchcraft groups?
On a Witchcraft group I joined someone asked where the idea of moon water came from, the idea of the Eclipse being chaos energy, and the idea of magick being energy came from.
She got several replies but annoyingly there was at least one person who blamed Tumblr, and three or four who blamed TikTok, while others said things like "I've been practicing Witchcraft for forty years and never heard of it until recently! Definitely invented by TikTok!"
Okay, kids, if you don't actually know something, don't assume. I don't care if you're been practicing for forty-years. If you only had one book and were practicing alone in a suburban garage, you haven't been exposed to much.
According to folklorist / historian Briana Saussy, The notion of moon water dates back to the 1860s where it was actually being used by some small Christian groups, leaving water out under the full moon, but the tradition dates back further than that and can be found in Sami culture and some Native American nations.
The eclipse being considered "Chaos" is from the logic leap tied to the notion that the power of the full moon is suddenly being infused by the presence of a shadow the color of blood. There's a lot of symbolism in that. "The moon will turn blood red" was a sign of the end days in Revelations (New Testament) but that comes from pre-Christian beliefs that associated eclipses with signs of great incoming change. Because of this the notion that lunar eclipses are unpredictable was introduced, possibly during Dianistic cultist practices in the Hellenistic era.
As they are symbols of change and change can be chaotic this is where the logic leap comes from, it's mostly fear of change because change can be good or bad.
Magick being considered energy is tied to nineteenth century hermeticism and early twentieth century theoretical physics when magick was being associated with thermodynamics and later concepts like psychokinetic energy, which was borrowed by Dan Aykroyd for the Ghostbusters franchise (PKE Meter). Just because it's new doesn't mean it's wrong. The Chinese notion of Chi was an early descriptor of this with different wording.
Making Blessed Water.
It's good to have Holy Water on your altar but if you can't get to a church or have a lay person pray over some water and you just want to make your own blessed water is how.
A great way to make blessed water is to get you some rain water (Get the water from rain that is calm, no thunderstorm water)
Pray the 23rd Palms make sure your breath is going on the water when praying.
Another prayer to bless water is the one below it's a good one as well.
Read: “Lord, God Almighty, creator of all life, of body and soul, we ask you to bless this water: as we use it in faith forgive our sins and save us from all illness and the power of evil.
You can make it even more special by adding a pinch of Florida Water (capful) and a little frankincense and myrrh to it.

February is a month when many of us see water in one form or another. Depending on where you live, that could be rain, snow, fog, or some combination of them all.
Water is necessary for life. It washes the land clean and nurtures the plants. Plus, of course, it is one of the four elements that many witches integrate into their magical work.
Today, collect some water to use in your rites, blessing and consecrating it for your own magic.
If you can, gather water from a source outside. If Mother Nature isn't cooperating, tap water will do. It all comes from the same source.
Put the water in a container you can keep on your altar or with your magical tools. Recite :
I bless and consecrate this water for magical use.
The essence of life, the tears of the sky, gift of the Goddess.

Sun and Moon water can both be used in many different spells and all sorts of magick. These blessed waters are related to the sun and moon, respectively. They are some of the easiest to make, and most popular types of blessed water!

Sun Water
Usually made with water from the tap, well water, water from lakes and puddles, etc., but any kind of water can be used
Sun water can be used to/for:
spells for happiness/banishing negativity/banishing depression
Spells for wakefulness
Spells for health and healing
Watering sick plants or plants that don’t get enough sunlight
Spells, potions, and rites for energy
Spells for attracting prosperity
I like to wash my hair with sun water infused with lavender because it makes me feel happy :)
How I make Sun Water
I use a clear glass jar, usually a mason jar
I set the water in my window to catch the sunlight from sunrise to sunset, removing the jar when it gets dark
Sometimes I put a citrine stone on top of/around the jar for an extra sunshine-kick
Then I use it in whatever way I please!

Moon Water
Usually made with water from the tap, well water, clear stream water, or rain water, but can be made with any water you choose
Moon water can be used to/for:
Spells for peace, calm, and tranquility
Spells for purification
Spells and potions for sleep and chasing away nightmares
Spells for cleansing
Spells and rites for prophecy and divination
Can be used as water for tea to enhance the magick of the tea
Spells for attracting good fortune
I like to dab moon water on my wrists and behind my ears when I’m nervous to calm me and make me feel less insecure
How I make Moon Water
I use a clear glass jar, usually a mason jar
I set the jar in my window or on my back porch from nightfall until dawn to catch the rays of the moon, removing the jar before sunrise
Sometimes I put moonstone and silver on/around the jar to give it an extra moonlight magick kick
I personally like to be aware of what phase the moon is in when I make moon water, and make many batches which I use for different things (e.g., waning moon water for banishing, full moon water for divination and prophecy, etc.)

Rain Water & Magick
