Today's artist spotlight goes to Blick Bassy, a Cameroonian artist who sings in Bassa (aka Basaa or Mbene), his ancestral language.
Bassa is a Bantu language spoken by about 300,000 people in Cameroon. Bassy sings in Bassa to promote its preservation and use by the younger generation, as he fears that it may disappear as less and less young people learn the language.
The pick for the playlist is Woñi!
