Snow crunched beneath your feet as you walked through the freezing kingdom of Nifl with your girlfriend, Laegjarn, at your side. The both of you were bundled up, Laegjarn more so than you seeing that she was absolutely not in the slightest used to the cold snow and chilly air.
The two of you had been quiet, listening to the wind blow and watching the snow fall. It was peaceful… For once. It had been months since King Surtr had been killed, but things still had to be dealt with. Nifl had to be rebuilt, and Laevatein had to assert herself as the new queen of Muspell. Laegjarn had denied her own ascension to the throne. The reason was never explained, and whenever you would ask, the woman would just smile warmly at you before going back to what she was doing.
Her knuckles brushed against yours, dragging you out of your thoughts as you glanced over to her. Her eyes were closed, and she herself looked to be lost in thought. She looked like a sore thumb compared to the snowy landscape surrounding her, but the flakes getting caught in her hair accompanied by her small smile made your heart skip a beat. She was so beautiful.
Your hand slowly took hers, and she almost immediately ran her thumb against the back of your hand, taking a step closer to you.
“Have you always been this beautiful?” She asked, eyes still closed. You offered a small sheepish smile before turning to her.
“What do you mean?” You weren’t as confused as you were intrigued with her observation. The woman turned to you as well, opening her dull sightless eyes that seemed to always stare into your soul.
“Every time I think of you, remember how you look, feel you hold my hand… I just remember how beautiful you are.” She gives you another smile as your cheeks flush darker than they had been before. “You get more and more beautiful every time.”
You laughed quietly, leaning forward and resting your head against her’s. “Thank you, love… I was just thinking the same thing.”
