He is not the King of Negativity (tm) he used to be, that's for sure. But surprisingly, now that he and Dream are in friendly terms, Nightmare is more than happy to engage with the "retired old man" lifestyle alongside his chosen "stray dogs".
Things are still a little complicated between the twins - Nothing will ever take away all they went through in the past - but they're trying their best to navigate these emotions. uwu

Answering your question, yes! Crux's whole design was deeply inspired by japanese samurai, and his floaty fabric was taken from japanese deities as well. I just wanted something that felt divine for him without just giving him a halo or crown.
