Top 5 mysteries of space..?
space is my Passion let me tell you about:
a massive electrical current detected some 2 billion lightyears away at the core of a galaxy, measuring at over 1000 amps, which is something like a trillion bolts of lightning. its most likely generated from the jets of matter commonly found blasting out from black holes at the centres of some galaxies
gravitational lensing. some objects are so impossibly massive they bend light via the force of their gravity. such is the case of large galaxies and galaxy clustered being observed to bend the light from further objects behind them, creating a distorted, bent image of it seemingly spiraling around the foreground object
the WOW signal. in 1977 a single burst of radio frequency from a point in space was received by the Big Ear Radio Telescope. no one… really knows what it was. amid all the boring data brought back by the telescope, the simplicity of the characters “6EQUJ5” stood out as something other. its been explained as something from our own planet, a gamma ray burst, so many things, but its never been picked up again or recreated, and so it remains a mystery
pulsars and neutron stars. pulsars are rapidly spinning neutron stars, neutron stars being the leftover remains of a supernova explosion. something like the dead husk of a star. they are impossibly heavy. a spoonful of neutron star matter would weigh more than the entire moon, and they spin so fast that they emit pulses of electromagnetic rotation. this, in turn, sounds like bizarre beatboxing
the boötes void. amid the expanse of space, amid the stars that dot the heavens, there exists voids where seemingly nothing exists. one of these, the boötes void, also known as the Great Void, is located in the constellation boötes and is over 90 billion light years across. its not completely empty; there have been a handful of galaxies discovered in it; but it is so impossibly sparse that its the equivalent of getting lost in the desert and not finding another human being for weeks, months, years on end
