A little history lesson for TBT. On this date in 1978 a major blizzard blew through the Great Lakes. Sustained winds were over 50 MPH and gusts reached 110 MPH on the lake. Cities like Cleveland, Akron/Canton and Columbus were essentially shut down for many days and millions lost power. Drivers and cars were stranded on roads and interstates.
I was a stupid teenager and went for a hike during the blizzard. It seemed to make sense at the time. Cleveland Ave, Market Ave, 38th St NW, Harrison Ave and the other ten or so streets that I wandered were deserted.
As crazy as it sounds, it was wonderful. I didn’t take any of these pictures but seeing them brings back memories.
Oh, and when I finally got home, after wandering the town for nearly four hours, the Riddler poured me a stiff drink. It was my first whisky.
