It was a day//Happy Blackout
Here is the second of our posts dedicated to the Featured Faces of our #BeyondtheSelfies IndieGoGo Campaign! We asked for you all to tell us what the Blackout means to you and got this fantastic submission from Tadrian! We are humbled to have been instrumental to your growth.
“The Blackout has been such a joy to be apart of. It not only helps encourages me as a young black male to be proud and embrace my skin color, that I never really took pride in until the blackout, but it also has opened my mind and made me recognize how truly beautiful and diverse all black people are and that I need to do whatever I can to love and support my people.”

An Open Call for #Blackout Photos
We are looking for people that want to become a part of our promotional material to ‘donate’ their pictures.
We’ll be looking to turn the pictures into special effects promos! We understand that not everyone isn't a photographer, so don’t worry if they aren’t super fancy. We just need:
1) Well lit photos.
2) Colors that are bright are cool and preferred. No visible logos on clothing or in background.
3) Your face must be visible and not cut out of the frame.
4) photos must be G-rated (we are trying to reach a large audience here and must keep it family friendly)
5) All of these photos must have a high resolution, so please submit originals. Please refrain from using filters.
That last one is especially important, as the artwork/editing will not come out smoothly if we can't get high resolution photos.
What you are gaining: All photos will have your name and/or Tumblr or Twitter name. All promos will have direct links unless otherwise requested. Free promo for you and possibly your creative projects!
If we do in fact get a lot of volunteers, we will follow up with you directly if your image is chosen. You must be 18 or older to have your image used.
Submit your photos to our inbox with your name (first name or appropriate nicknames), Tumblr/Twitter handle and a brief blurb about what #BlackoutDay means to you.

Happy Blackout!
I may have gotten just a tad bit carried away... But this is Blackout Day ft. @tikkipurdy
It’d take forever to talk about all the self-confidence I’ve gained in the last year, but I want to thank Black Tumblr (and the Blackout!) for reminding me daily how beautiful blackness really is.
This Blackout I’d think it’d be awesome to gain new Black tumblr friends, so come talk to me!

The Blackout is Celebrating Our First Year!
On March 6th, 2015, we took over the internet with #Blackout and #BlackoutDay. One year and thousands of selfies later, we are still going strong. We’ve been featured in interviews, magazines, and managed to trend on every major social media platform on each #BlackoutDay so far. Best of all, we’ve gotten to see a sense of community and unity within the tags and connected black folks from all walks of life.
The very first #BlackoutDay of 2016 is happening on March 6th, 2016. Join us in celebrating this amazing year. For our theme, we want you all to share how #BlackoutDay and #Blackout have changed you. Use #BlackoutStories to tell us what this year, and its blackouts, have meant to you. Leading up to March 6th, we’ll be reposting and featuring your stories.
Make sure to also follow the official platforms of The Blackout in order to keep up to date!
