on funerary rights: in which, long after returning to greyhaven, blockdown sets out to hold a proper funeral for the one who never made it home.

blockdown's not quite sure what to expect when he falls back to the end. it's been months since they fought the dragon, and none of them had returned to the end since. it's still terribly cold, forcing him to pull his cloak tighter the moment he steps onto the island. the island itself look almost exactly the same as they had left it. it crawls with endermen, but the obsidian towers lack their usual magic, and the roar of the dragon is nowhere to be heard. and, most notably, there's still a dead body in the middle. stobbles looks almost the same as he did when they'd left him here, body perfectly preserved in the unmoving air of the end. but when he looks at him, something in blockdown's brain supplies the nonsensical thought- "he's cold". so despite all his good sense, blockdown takes off his cloak, and wraps it around stobbles' empty body.

Drift's words ring in Blockdown's ears as he stumbles back home. She didn't really think he was that bad at protecting people, right? She would have told him to his face, right? Well, clearly not. Already he was running a packing list through his mind. If they didn't think they needed him here, he'd just have to prove he didn't need them either. They'd all have to beg him to come back to Emberhollow.

Or, Blockdown doesn't need to be useful to be valued. If only he knew that.

c!Blockdown from Bloodlines SMP. He's constantly trying to prove that he's a brave and noble warrior, despite being a bit of a bumbling fool (he did manage to prove himself in the series finale though!). A fistfight tournament would be great enrichment for him.
