Exhausting conversations with my family.
Below is an email i sent to my parent after a very tiring conversation. I had attempted to update them about how their grandkids were doing and they asked me about this embarrassing display by the residents of Northern Virginia.
You mentioned CRT last evening during our call and I wanted to send over this article I read this morning (LINK) . You said something interesting, that if a lot of "intelligent people were writing legislation about something there must be something to it". As a consideration, my view is clear, objective, history is important. I said recently to a friend that a "Roman would be comfortable discussing the conquests that made the Empire." I believe a true understanding of what makes America a unique place is to unflinchingly understand that it was not created in a peaceful way and relied on some pretty awful things i in order to achieve what we have today. We learned about the United States for several years of highschool. I didn't learn about the Tulsa Massacre in highschool, but I did in my second year of college. My all white highschool was non-comprehensive about the Trail of Tears or Japanese Internment. We learned about the Civil War, and I recall clearly learning about the economic pressures of that conflict, but we were not pressed to read the Cornerstone Speech, which is interesting given how blatant the notion of subjugation of a certain group was critical in the opinion of the Southern States to the existence of their proposed nation. We learned about our victories in WWII and skipped the part about how black veterans were specifically not eligible for GI Bill benefits. All in all, to me, it seems disingenuous to limit the teaching of what white supremacy is and how it continues as a portion of our Nation today. It is a problem that is foundational to the American experience and is a portion of our laws. This understanding does not indict us, but helps us to understand that some of our lives and success were possible because of our status which is provided by the inherent unlevel playing field. The part of the first referred article that made me thing to write to you is this: "[Harrison says] they don’t teach critical race theory, but conservative activists are using that label for a range of diversity and equity initiatives that they consider too progressive, prompting lawmakers in 22 states to propose limits on how schools can talk about racial issues." Respectfully, intelligent people can use the law as a weapon against progress. It would not be the first time, and as intelligent people we should recognize efforts to limit truth Fascism.

Their response to my email was this:
When you have some time, this gentleman’s perspective offers insight on the “duality of language people on opposing sides of an issue then to employ”
Linking to this Video by this guy: Dr. Voddie Baucham, who appears to be an prolife charlatan speaking for The Founders Group who works to say that systemic racism isn’t a thing.
Look, you can believe what you want. But after a while, your beliefs make you. And if you hold in high esteem people who are working to muddy the water and declare racism over (when it clearly is not). then well bud: you are a racist.
If only people had been talking about this for decades.
Brilliant. Manage Parents. Kids use Parental controls to block Fox News from your nutty parents. #blockfox #useparentalcontrols #professionalparent #manageparents (at United States) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoXhpDFhGumXdpP539unIsHuSMaPdKrTfv9XRE0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1hf6bblb648rs
