ExpressionEngine cha cha cha changes
The folks at EllisLabs introduced some big changes to their support structure yesterday – essentially tech support is longer included with the $299 license you purchase for every EE installation.
To be honest, I'm not sure if this really is a big deal for me. I barely relied on their tech support because it was too slow, or didn't support the particular feature I was asking about. The #eecms community on Twitter has been much more responsive and helpful.
Don't get me wrong - I see EllisLab's move as a bit of a slap in the face as well, but EllisLab isn't what makes EE great. It's the community and great add-ons developers. With (hopefully) a dedicated StackExchange site for ExpressionEngine on the way, the community will have a centralized place for support that will likely be better, faster and more effective than EllisLab's support ever was. (I don't want to knock them down completely - they did help me, it's not that they were of no help at all - but we all know it could have been better, faster, etc.).
As long as the add-on devs are part of the community - I'll stick around too... For now at least. I've already started working with Statamic and will look forward to seeing BlocksCMS get released. It's always good to have options.
