Week 17 reading blog
This week I read page(s) 3-53 of the book "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley.
The most important sentence(s) of the week can be founded on page 27 and it goes as follow, 'Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're frightfully clever. I'm really awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able....' This explains the whole theme of the book that it's going for which is that we divide among ourselves based on intelligence, wealth, race, religion, etc. And that even though this futuristic type of civilization where its so advance that parents are able to design their own babies to be peak at everything. Basically civilians are engineered & condition from birth to fit into predetermine societal roles which in today's world still exist! A great example will be India Caste system which has existed for at least 3000 where it is a social hierarchy passed down through families which is also similar to what the Eugenics believe. Our main character its Bernad Marx adventures to the day to day life of being part of the Alpha group where they pretty much have the most power among any group yet he feel his life is empty without a direction. I as a immigrant can understand what it feels like to be told from society that you can't achieve your dreams because of your financial statues or background.
Honestly very hype for this book.
It kind of reminds me of the book I read back in 10th grade called Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
In short this dystopian future is all about "racial improvement" and "planned breeding"
