Sleeping on the job
His Life’s Purpose
I don’t know if this may sound a bit cliché. And I really don’t care if you believe it. But slowly by slowly I was truly convinced that Oliver was in my life for a reason. If you read my first post you would remember that a student called me out of nowhere telling me that she had found a puppy which had been abandoned. Out of all the people she could have called— she called me. And it also turns out that her best friend wanted to keep Oliver but she ended up giving him to me. I just can’t explain why.
I also already told you that Oliver doesn’t like to stay home alone. He doesn’t like to be alone period. But what I haven’t told you is that neither do I.
I guess we can all say that we got some childhood issues. We can thank our lovely parents for that. I know they meant no harm and they didn’t intend to traumatize us.
Oh well. They did. As an adult and searching for meaning, (my life’s purpose), why am I here and so on. I started realizing why I did certain things and why I couldn’t stick with a project that I had started or why I got tired of being with the same person for more than two years.
—-Something I haven’t told you is that my mom abandoned me when I was very young and it has been traumatizing me ever since. Now that I am aware I’ve realized that I always abandon things before it is done to me. (We’ll talk about this topic later.)
So turns out, my biggest fear was to be left alone and well I started realizing that it was Oliver’s biggest fear, too. He didn’t like to be left alone because he was afraid that he might get abandoned, too. He howls when he is lonely.
I don’t blame him, he was abandoned when he was little. He is scared I might do the same to him. But being with Oliver has made me become aware of what I feared the most. I started noticing that one of the reason why he chose me as his mom was to allow me to face my fear. Allow me to stick to something or even be able to be with someone. To be honest, I haven’t done it yet but at least I know it’s there. I don’t know if I ever will but I am working on it.
Another pro-tip! Working with animals on photoshoots makes it really difficult to get your facial expression right. Here we see that even Pixie, a natural beauty if there ever was one, is struggling to appear unconcerned. She's clamped to my chest, you say? Benson and the tale of Gracie
Harvey: You have a far away look in your eye, you are thinking about treats aren't you? I know I am, I just keep wondering about all the treats in the cupboard. The crunchy bone biscuits, the soft chewy beef sticks, Oh the BarkyBark, that's my favorite, and then there's the....Benson, are you listening to me?
Benson: What? sorry?...Oh, I do beg your pardon, Harvey, I was daydreaming.
Harvey: Yes, I’ve noticed just recently that you haven’t been yourself, are you ill?
Benson: No..well.. yes you could say I am not feeling myself. I feel light-headed, and a little dizzy. My heart flutters with butterflies and I sometimes feel a little sick.
Harvey: Oh no Benson!.You might have to go and see the dreaded Bluecoats.
Benson: No Harvey I don’t think it’s that bad. In fact, I remember feeling like this a long time ago. It was when I...
Harvey: When you..?
Benson: When I....Oh, I know what is wrong with me.
Harvey: Benson, is it bad? What is it?
Benson: I’m lovesick.
Harvey: Lovesick?
Benson: Oh why didn’t I think of that before, of course, all the signs are there. She's stolen my heart.
Harvey: Who?
Benson: Gracie. Dear sweet Gracie.
Harvey: Gracie? You mean the one that gave you the cuddly cat last Christmas? The one who gave you the card? The same Gracie who’s picture is stuck on the wall?
Benson: The very same Harvey. She is a rescue dog, just like me, but her tale is a little sad and scary. Settle down and I will tell you all about her.
Gracie was thrown out of her home a long time ago. She wandered the streets, searching for bits of food and spending her days trying to find a warm and safe place to sleep for the night. She was scared, hungry and very alone.
One day she came face to face with a big four-legs. He growled a low menacing growl and showed his teeth. That is when Gracie ran. She ran for her life until she had no breath left in her. When she stopped and looked around, she didn't recognize any buildings or trees.
Nothing.
She was lost from the only area she knew.
Harvey: Oh no!
Benson: She was so tired and hungry. She just wanted to lay down and sleep, but where could she go. It was getting dark and as a few drops of rain began to fall on her nose, she knew she had to find shelter.
She walked from street to street, trying to find somewhere warm and dry for the night. Eventually, she came across an old building, it looked like no Two-legs had lived there for a long time. She crept up to the door and peered in through a gap, it looked safe enough, so she crawled in, found an old mattress and quickly fell asleep.
Gracie, at last, felt safe. She had somewhere dry and warm to sleep, and as luck would have it, a restaurant next door. Always plenty of scraps to eat!
Harvey: Ahh.That's nice.
Benson: One day, Gracie was taking a nap when something woke her.
Bzzz.. Bzzz.. Bzzz
Harvey: (Gasps!)..What was that?
Benson: It was the buzzing of flies as they came to inspect their new roommate. It frightened her so much that she dashed outside into the morning sunshine and nearly into the path of a car!
Harvey: Nooooo....
Benson: The Two-Legs in the car screeched to a halt while Gracie froze in terror.
"Its ok little one," Two-legs said, "Where did you come from, hey?"
He bent down, to give Gracie the rest of his lunch. His soothing voice calmed Gracie down.
“Hey little one, I’ve seen you here before, I don't think you have a home do you?
"I know someone that would look after you"
Harvey: Is she coming here, Benson? Because quite honestly I don’t think we have the room.
Benson: No Harvey. The kind Two-Legs placed Gracie in his car and took her home to his mother's house. And that is where she has lived ever since, in a house full of love.
Harvey; Aw Benson, I'm glad she found a home to be happy in.
Benson: And now she makes me happy Harvey. The only trouble is, I don’t think she knows that she makes me happy. So I have written her a song to let her know how I feel. To show her that deep in my heart, I am declaring to the world, that Gracie is my one true love.
Harvey: You are going to sing a song?.. To Gracie?
Benson: Tell me what you think Harvey..
(to the tune of Daisy Daisy)
“Gracie, Gracie,
All that I feel is true.
I’m half crazy,
all for the love of you!
We could take a walk in the park,
I’d love to hear you bark.
But you’ll look sweet, by my feet,
On a leash that is made for two!”
Benson: Well?
Harvey: Its lovely Benson, Maybe you should try X-Factor, I bet you could win.
Benson: Do you know Harvey, I think I could. I really think I could.
Lots of love,
Benson xx
