A theory: blonde, mustache-d Jack looks better than no-mustache blond Jack, because the person who did the edit to mustache Jack also colored his eyebrows blond. This (personally) affects his appearance more than the mustache.

you are raising a very interesting point which might actually be relevant. in order to have conclusive results we would need to get different edits with different amounts of blond, and then make a formal survey
until then we will always live in doubt
